With some of the driver's out there it would be a blessing.

Yes I would; be able to see the sites and spot FSBO's better.

Earlier this month, the Ontario government announced a pilot project to allow companies to conduct testing of self-driving vehicles on roads starting next year.  As in a number of other juridictions, a human driver must be ready to take over control if there are problems.

I had read recently that companies are still trying to overcome many issues with self-driving vehicles in many types of driving environments.

I know some people who would certainly use self-driving vehicles but they would not want to be responsible for taking over the driving in case of problems.

I think it will become a status thing. The upper half of the country will have them and the working class won’t be able to afford them. Even if people don’t prefer them, they will adopt them for social status.

Sure if I could afford it and felt they were safe, and of course drive as fast as I do.  I suspect they will operate at a faster speed with built in safety sensors.

I don't think so, I think it would freak me out especially knowing that other drivers around me are still driving themselves. I guess if I wanted someone or something else to drive, I would go by bus or train if possible.

I would. It will diminish the numbers of bad drivers on the road.

I commute to the Bay area every  month and we reside in Mountain View (Yes, that is where Google tests their driverless cars). It is now a common site to see cars without drivers. They have huge cameras on top of the car.

4 minor accidents in the past months. Google claims it was caused by the other drivers.

Yes, absolutely the faster we get intoxicated, overtired, and distracted drivers out from behind the wheel, the better! I certainly wouldn't mind traffic disappearing, as well.

Most definitely!  I've seen Volvo has one in one part of (I think) Sweden.  Pretty darn cool!  Several manufacturers have ones that park themselves.  Tesla has one that will change lanes by itself.  I could have used one that drives itself on several occassions this year after long rescues.

I'd have the navigation system named "James" simply so I could say "Home James" (popular car driver's name in movies).

I believe we are on the verge of a paradigm shift.  Much like when we went from horse & buggy to the automobile, our grandchildren will look back and wonder how we survived driving our vehicles ourselves.

Road rage, traffic jams, driver error...all of these will be things of the past.  Can't wait!

I think we would still need to monitor the driving closely. What about sensing a deer jumping on the road or a squirrel? I guess this is perhaps exactly where a computer might be quicker than a human being to react.

I think I saw one the other day.  It had  something mounted to the roof, kinda like something on top of a tri-pod.  I would have to see how all the tests go before I let a machine take control of my destiny on the road.

I read that heavy users are really taking chances. One story was about a person taking a nap.

Most state laws would still inflict heavy fines if you were distracted or on the phone no matter how automatic your car is or was...
