I have no choice in either. The MLS is chosen by the local Board and they require the NAR membership also.

I always pay my dues. And it is a lot! NAR+ CAR+ local board+ MLS+ insurance+ designation annual fees+Supra fees+  broker share. We have an agent who does not pay any of that, but he is a part timer, he works mostly as assistant.

I have been with NAR and I am no longer with Nar.  I did not see any benefits for me.  I have been an agent for 31 years but for a new agent I can see benefit for NAR.

Yes, is worth it.  And, you may be required to join, depending on whether your office is a member office. NAR is a powerful organization for all things real estate related.  It offers many benefits to Realtors and property owners.

NAR - in my area, we are kind of "forced" into joining as part of our local board fees. MLS allows you to list homes, giving it visibility among other agents and Realtor.com automatically picks it up as well, which gives it visibility with buyers.

NAR may not be worth the dues but many real estate professionals are required to belong NAR, state and local boards to have access to the MLS service which the must have.

Some MLS services are much better than others. You are stuck with what you have until you accept leadership roles for changes.

It does pay to be a REALTOR®. You follow a certain standard and a certain code of ethics. REALTORS® stand out because of their commitment to the profession and their commitment to their local communities and the world around them. I can say that because my state association estabished a fund to help areas in need...and that could be an area outside of my state.

Most boards will require that you be a member to join. So check with your local board on requirements.

We are forced into NAR under duress (join or no MLS access).  It is part of our dues and in my view, a complete waste of money.  It provides no tangible service.

As to the MLS... if I could get my own direct access, I'd be a happy man.
