No because it has nothing to do with the actual listing. That can also be a detriment to some. I wouldn't want to live 100 miles near the Kardashians as an example.

Wanda,
It depends. One of our clients has a listing on an enormous ranch which is right next door to the ranch that Ronald Reagan used to own. It does help the listing. However, Ronald Reagan is deceased and is now dancing in Heaven with Nancy.
We signed NDA (non-disclosure agreements) with celebrity clients, and we did many deals with them. They promoted us. That was worth a lot more to us than giving names. A

Hi beauty! I think Susan Emo nailed it. Keep it on the DL and only discuss off the record with a UC buyer if they express a concern about privacy or paparazzi. Might be material at that point. As an element in my Property Pedigree product that would most certainly be leveraged.
Why? It addresses one of the greatest unspoken needs of the potential buyer. They WANT to talk about their home to their visitors. A back story provides that. Better still, "I ran into my neighbor Jay Leno at the Car Parts King this morning." (unspoken -'eat your heart out')
How would your 'expertise' be viewed if you did not share who lives in the community?

No way ! The only exception MIGHT be if the celebrity actually asked for the publicity and gave WRITTEN permission, to publicize their presence or involvement in the listing.
Even with their permission or involvement, there would have to be some inherent value related to including them before I would consider it.

Let the property sell itself. The celebrity could move out next month! Also the likelihood of the buyers actually meeting and socializing with the celebrity is probably not too likely. This could also mean more traffic in the neighborhood, also a turn off. A casual mention while showing the house may be fine but definitely not in print.
-
Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - W...

-
Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - W...

No. It used to be a running joke in our neighborhood that our streets would get plowed first in the winter because Mayor Daley lived here. But in reality people don't move here because of the celebrities who live here, they move here for the same reasons as our celebrity neighbors; they want to be close to the amenities we have, downtown, lakefront, transportation, dining, entertainment, etc.
-
Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - W...

In our area, we have the occasional celebrity "home". A house that was used in a John Hughes film (ie: Risky business, the Home Alone Series, Ferris Bueller, Uncle Buck, Ordinary People, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club)... and typically the sellers ask us NOT to mention that in our marketing.... they don't want a bunch of looky-lous making appointments just to gawk.
Of course, the word still gets out... everyone knows the homes... and that iconic garage over the ravine where Cameron sent that classic Ferrari to its doom.
-
Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - W...

I agree with quite a few of the previous comments, I wouldn't use in my marketing without permission (maybe still not even with permission), give them their privacy, & maybe casually mention at a showing. Unless it is Warren Buffett (maybe) I can imagine the celebrity card can turn off as many as it attracts. If it's The Donald, I may leave that one out completely, for now.
-
Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - W...
St. George, UT

I may mention casually but not in marketing.
Last week we were at an open house where the agent mentioned it was a "famous" house. When we asked why she mentioned a figure skater from 25 yeas ago that no one remembers. Made zero impact and caused my buyers to chuckle, maybe taking away from the home.
-
Wanda Kubat-Nerdin - W...
St. George, UT

No. It could be a plus for some and for others a total turn off. Besides the privacy issue, the celebrity neighbors may move one day. I like Susan Emo's description and would tweak it to the particular situation.

I would not mention in my marketing because people are fickle and could make assumptions that they wouldn't fit in the neighborhood or that it would be too hoity-toity for them, create too much traffic or be too public or unsafe. Or they may not like that celebrity or what they stand for. It just doesn't matter in the marketing.

I wouldn't in your marketing, but it wouldn't hurt in your showing, I think.
Here on the North Shore of Lake Michigan, we have many, and when the house in Winnetka was listed, everyone already knew it was the "Home Alone" house or Farris Buluer's house. And when Michael Jordan's house was for sale, it was easy since the front of the gate had a big "23" on it. On the other hand, when Mr. T's house was listed, no one really said anything.

I would not use the celebrity's name as it would alienate him/her. I actually have a pocket listing with a well-known actor living across the street. Everyone in our small town know he lives there anyway.
