I participate in the weight loss program at the hospital that did my surgery 3 years ago.....I speak to pre-surgical patients about exercising and the value of getting fit....

I let my clients know that I ring the bell for the Salvation Army each Christmas and I invite them to join our local branch of 100 Women Who Care.

       We walk every morning from our house to the main highway.  About 3/4 mile each way.  I carry a plastic bag and pick up the litter.   There is never much, but if you don't do it daily, it will add up.

      The County lawn mowers ride over it and make a horrible mess (they say the road is too short to warrant a Sheriff's work detail to pick up the litter).

    The neighbors see me, they wave as they drive by, nothing needs to be said, they know.

I think learning how to promote oneself as an upstanding citizen without arrogance or looking to self-serving is definitely an important skill to develop. 

I've been a volunteer for at least one organization, and usually 3 or more, since I was 10 years old. One of my community activities is our local Community Emergency Response Team.

I volunteer on average about 50 hours a month between Malibu Search and Rescue, a second Los Angeles Sheriff's Department team and the FBI's InfraGard program.  This month will be a little higher.  I'm attending a class this week and we had a large brush fire response.

80% of my volunteer effort is to ease the suffering of others.

20% is committed to getting folks involved in fitness and to get moving.

I only reveal such activity if it is relevant to the subject at hand.

For example I make note of their distaste for those panhandlers in the median.  When they share the story of their uncle they never talk about, I share the story of Bennett.

Had a car accident, injured, lost his job. Bennett is a hard worker so as soon as able, and his body allowed him to work and before eviction, Bennet gets a new job. Washing the exterior of window on high-rises. Bennett fell from the platform, grabbed the safety rope and burned the skin from his hands.  Bennett, feeling disgraced and lower than a snakes belly, panhandles to get money to buy food. His is not the only mouth to feed. Housing takes every available dime. When his hands heal, he will need a job.

Beacon Street is responding to many of Bennett's essential needs.

"What is Beacon Street?" they ask. Now I can tell my volunteering story and some insight regarding what is really happening on those medians..

Before I became a realtor I did volunteering at a local hospital, a 5-hour Shift, one day a week, in OP Surgery, as well as worked my other on-call jobs.  Once I became a realtor, I left, as I could not book anything 'the last minute' because I could not get someone to Sub for me.  Now, I'm thinking of going back to volunteering, though this time working with animals, if my schedule would work with theirs.  Yes, I would absolutely tell my clients (if it was appropriate) - they would know that I love where I live and that I enjoy being part of my community Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl.

I am part of  a Community Service Club, have worked at soup kitchen and recently joined Civil Air Patrol. Yes, I tell my clients if it comes up and it's in my bio.

It is always good to volunteer on community clean up days.

I do a lot of volunteer work with the church, and keep it very separate from my business.

The turth to my answer is more complicated than a simple yes or no.  But the short answer is yes I do and no I don't really talk about much. However I do also publically advocate for causes near and dear to me in my community

I volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and the local animal shelter. Most of my clients know that I volunteer, because I often have to explain that I'm working at the shelter for three hours on Tuesday. They love it. 

Today at the Shelter Shoppe, a woman came in and reminded me that she had talked with me about listing her land. She was thankful I was volunteering to help out the animals, and thanked me for putting in my time. I bet I have a really good shot at that listing when she's finally ready to list. What do you think?

Although that's not why I do it. I love helping out. 

I am a local Ambassador and have done things like hand out bike lights and register bikes with stickers in case they are stolen.

I volunteer at our local hospital in the Nursing Center.  I visit and make afgans for the new ones that come into the center..

Wayne and Jean - We have done a lot of volunteering. From giving blood to the Special Olympics, to Feed My Starving Children, to volunteering for the Phoenix Children's Hospital, and feeding the poor on Christmas.

No I do not advertise these things to my clients because that is not why I do them.

I volunteer at Martin Health Systems Tradition Medical Center in the emergency room.  I get to give back and get away from by computer and business for a bit that way.  It is very rewarding and a wonderful organization to be part of.  I was a patient there and was so impressed with the facilities and staff that I decided to help out.

I am on the local Board of Realtor and that keeps me busy.  Yes I tell people.

I volunteer in the horse community:  I help out with 4H clubs, at a therapeutic riding center and at various horse events.  I do let my clients know that I volunteer.  It shows that I am pro-active and like to help the horse community in whatever ways I can.  It also gives me lots of exposure.

I do not advertise my volunteering my duties.

I do not discuss my private life  with clients.

I get my clients to talk about themselves and most are happy to do that so there is very little time to discuss what I do.

They are suprised and I tell them 10% of my commission goes to charity.

I've never been much of a community volunteer (I know slap me).  I was too busy taking care of family.  It is on my radar soon!  My volunteering will be IN the real estate industry, though.  

I'm an officer and board member of my neighborhood association.  And I tend to keep it to myself outside of the neighborhood.

Yes I do..I sponsor all kinds of events in our community and for the schools. My clients let it be know what I do..on Facebook and other SM. I've been on our community Elementary School Site Based advisory board for 18 years. 

Yes I tell some of my clients about my volunteering normally when it comes up in conversation.

I do several things throughout the year -fundraising for different organizations and using my social circle to do group volunteer projects, working with troubled youth.  We're always looking for new projects and good causes.
