Nothing. Many signs that agents claim were stolen, were actually removed by authorities because they were placed in areas which were a violation of laws or zoning ordinances. Also, i know agents that let homeowners use their signs to promote yard sales, etc as was of networking and getting exposure.

I've never found a stolen realtor sign (although I'm sure it happens often).  If I did see one, I'd certainly return it/call the agent, esp as they might be able to refer biz to me in the future.

Poverty of spirit is at work from those who steal. Keep it! I can get another sign but that person remains with sign but poorer for it.

Haven't had any stolen in a very, very long time, Bob. I did have one that people used for target practice. That annoyed me as my signs are expensive.

I saw a sign that was repurposed for a garage sale.  Driving around I saw a few that looked like they were from the same agent.  Figured it was a client or the agent themselves.  Plus, I couldn't see the contact info while driving otherwise I'd have called them.  I hate when people steal signs.  If I saw one in action, I'd take a photo and call the cops.  If it was my sign I'd detain them until the cops arrived.  Sadly, they don't cost much and the best they'd get is an infraction.  Darn prop 47!

I would certainly call the agent and let them know where I saw the sign. If possible, I would secure it, so they can easily find it in a safe place.  We owe each other that common courtesy.

The open house signs are often taken if someone wants to have a garage sale.

Lately my cute rider: "TOO LATE, OPEN SUN, OPEN SAT-SUN" all disappeared.

Simple..call the agent number on the sign and let them know. We often see our signs taken ads a prank and removed to another location..on a golf course or by a country club (when the kids first get out of school)...must be a right of passage!

Well, I haven't seen one that I've ever been aware of, though I did read your Blog Bob "RealMan" Timm.  I'm not sure how you could notify the realtor if the sign was covered though.  I see many homemade signs, and it's too bad that someone couldn't think of making their own, if they didn't want to buy one, and instead felt they had to take someone else's . . .
