As needed... they get weekly reports on activity on the internet sites, they get immediate reports on showing activity as scheduled and as feedback comes in. Really depends on the listing and on the home sellers. I have one client right now who basically said "call me when you have an offer. Otherwise I don't need to see anything."

It depends on the client and the property. Some take a long time to sell, and the clients are okay with periodic/meaningful updates. Homes are different. Some clients want a play-by-play and some only want to hear from you when there's an offer. Those are things to find out and establish during the listing process.

When I was working as a VA, all of my clients sent formal weekly reports outlining all of the marketing activities that were done that week, online stats, etc. And all of them touched base with their sellers personally each time there was viewing feedback, or other item that needed to be passed on right away. 

When you're not in regular contact, as a seller myself, I would start to question in my mind if my agent is really doing anything to sell my property. I would start thinking about finding somone else to represent me. So, keeping in touch frequently is important.

In today's real estate market most of the time listing agents do not even need to update the seller on any activity. Most homes are sold in 1 day. It is usually the seller who doesn't respond to the buyer right away as he's accumulating more offers.
