You look like a librian - I doubt that! What the heck it the real estate brokery look!!??

My mother was a research librarian for several of Fortune 500 companies, and she always looked in style and great.  In my opinion the librarians that I met were with it...A

I was at the DMV a year ago as my wife was having to take a driving test to get her license renewed. I was wearing "Realtor" clothing which on this day was black shoes, wood pants, spread color shirt with restrained tie, silver Rolex watch and very well groomed. I was standing near the line where folks wait for the DMV guy to say, "Next". I also had a yellow legal pad as I was taking notes on some marketing. I sneezed and turned around and 20 people where standing behind me. They said, almost in unison, "We're tired of waiting for you to get back to work!". No librarian for me but a guy who works at the DMV!?

  And actually I think blonde librarians are hot!

    I was in Publix the other day, I was wearing a white shirt and a tie.  Lady thought I was the manager.   Sigh.

I don't think clothing makes the person, but you should dress appropriate for your area. Here we dress business casual. 

I like dressing better than the average guy when I'm at work or play BUT I don't spend much money, I shop the thrift stores and rummage sales.

It does take  bit more than clothes, but they help.

Not getting it. You do feel better in clothes that you like which shows thru.

If you have an appointment, I can understand dressing with casual business attire.... but casual attire is appropriate if you don't have an appointment... what I wear is all color coordinated and nicely pressed.... there's nothing wrong with casual attire.... a sundress... jumpsuit... there are alot of nice outfits you could wear and not feel inappropriately dressed...

I like selling from home in my pajamas but i do dress for the appropriate occassion.

Hmmm, not sure what clothes those might be. It depends on the area I suppose. Does a real estate professional dress any differently than other professionals?

Idon't think so!  Wear what is appropiate for your area. That is what I do. And here it's Hawaiin shirts.

I had a car bumper sticker which says: "Trust Me I am a Realtor". On a trip to another city people kept smiling at me and the sticker on top of my laptop.

That's why I never step inside a Target while wearing a red polo shirt and khaki pants.   Or a ski mask at the bank. 

How interesting... I guess my personal style is such that no one ever mistook me for a librarian... then again, my style is still fairly corporate because that's what I was used to for 20 years before doing real estate. 

I have had people say I look professional and I have gotten listings over other agents that dressed sloppy

I always suggest people wear their real estate name badge. You never know when this can generate a real estate conversation and, perhaps, a new client.

I would have enjoyed seeing you walk down the street with your yard sign! 

It does make a difference.

I think it depends on your market. I like to dress a little better than my clients as it makes me feel in control of the situation.

Not sure what we're "supposed" to look like - I guess it depends on where you are

Those who CAN be confused by clothing, WILL be.

For me, 'clothes make the person' in any career field Hella M. Rothwell, Broker/Realtor®.  In a past career, I was always dressed the same as the guys, in a dark suit and always had a jacket of some type (could be a match or a coordinated piece) and I always got asked questions as you had that 'look' of authority.  Fortunately I knew the answers or could get someone who did, so it was a real confidence builder.  I do think it makes a difference in how you are perceived.  In real estate, depending on your area, it can be so much more casual, that going in shorts is not stared at, and going in a suit would be!  When there are no parameters, I've always thought it best to use good judgment and look more than presentable, but to look professional.  Hard sometimes to tell 'who' is the realtor when I see them showing homes to clients, and I think they should 'stand out' in some way.  And I do think it depends on one's style, though I have seen many styles!

I love libraries so I see nothing wrong with being mistaken as a librarian (unless you did the bun thing)? 😧 I do get called a lawyer a lot in San Diego because I'm shirt and tie 👔 6 days per week. I'm a pro so I dress like a pro. Tommy Bahama is great for Sunday's off and vacations. 😎

The right clothes are different in different markets and individual tastes.

Well the saying used to be clothes make the man... but then there is another saying Don't judge a book by its cover... so pick your poison .. that's my last saying here now lol

There is one Broker in our office that wears jeans every single day and does $10million+ every year.    I don't think so.

Got to do something about it, I guess....

In our market I see agents dressed up with jewelry, makeup and big hair. I also run into some that forgot to finish getting dressed. I know it's summer but .. really?  During baseball season I meet ladies showing in their jersey and shorts. Maybe it depends on your location. 

Funny,  I wear a R on my shirt most days and a name tag.

I tend to dress it up upon first meeting, then when I see how my clients dress, I try to dress in a similiar fashion.  The only exception is selling nudist colony property which I probably am considered over dressed 

When I work, I look professional and stylish. When I shop at Ralph or spend time with my family, I do not want any attention and look as average as possible. 

Well, at least you know you are a shoe-in for an alternate occupation if you ever want a change. 

It'll definitely make you look more professional.
