Romeo & Juliet is likely the answer but, to me, the tragedy outweighs the romance - I like happy endings!

Praful Thakkar Although many would say Shakespeare's most romantic play was Romeo & Juliet, they seem to forget it was a tragedy that ended with the suicides of the main characters.

In my opinion, Shakespeare's most romantic play was, The Taming of the Shrew where Petruchio won the heart of Katherina through a masterful use of persistent psychological "warfare." Now, THAT'S a romantic story.

Dire Straits – Romeo And Juliet Lyrics

A lovestruck Romeo sings the streets a serenade
Laying everybody low with a lovesong that he made
Finds a streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like you and me babe how about it?

Sorry.... not a Shakespeare fan in the least. I've studied much literature, Russian, French, German, American... but Shakespeare does not do it for me.

People will say Romeo and Juliet.  But I hate an ending where people are dead.  Give me Taming of the Shrew any day!

Hamlet was.  For the line of "Ophellia, get thyself to a Nunnery".  Back then that was another term for a "house of ill repute."

I would say Much Ado about Nothing.  Romeo & Juliet is classified as one of his tragedies.  And, I prefer Cole Porter's Kiss Me Kate over Taming of the m Of the Shrew, but both are better choices for this question.

Romeo & Juliet is really a "remake" of Pyramus & Thisbe.
