My husband and I did a few real estate shows in the past.  They're fun to do and help get your face out there a bit, but it involved too much time and really didn't help our business at all.

What do these shows get wrong?  Almost everything.

Tim,

TV is dependent on sponsors.  Sponsors have an agenda.  TV has to fullfill that agenda, which is how HGTV survives.  Truth is not as important as fiction when it comes to selling a product.  Reality is not the intent off news or television.  I have been friends with a news editor for many years, and this is not just my opinion.  One dances to the tune of the entity who pays the bills. I am periodically intereviewed by the local TV station on real estate trends. Does that count?

What they get wrong the most - that a decision can be made on their real estate purchase within 1/2 an hour.  Don't we all wish that would be true!

"...a reality TV show involving real estate? What is one thing these shows get wrong that you would set the record straight about? "...

Let me set the record straight. If it's a reality show, it is all FAKE.

So, one must assess if their role is to be entertaining, perhaps at the agents expense, or revolutionary by exposing what so many have come to dislike.

I would set the record straight by having lengthy discussion regarding the failure system created by the brokerage culture and the industry's dependence on the money of new victims. A 90% failure rate should get attention. So how do you start right? That would be the season 3 topic.

Obviously the failure system subject content would lead to a renewal of the series and then I'd take up the code of ethics......you've got to be kidding.

No, I would talk about:

THE LIES YOU'VE BEEN TOLD: Success Theater,

THE LIES YOU'VE BEEN TOLD:Vanity Metrics and

THE LIES YOU'VE BEEN TOLD:Surrogate Endpoints

Other than that I have no idea.

I would simply to be able to use the fact in my marketing.  The only caveat is that I would need to know what was going to happen ahead of time, so I could have the answers ready and not have a script to follow.

I'm not a fan of the "Million dollar listing" type shows, but Property Brothers and Flip or Flop I do like... even with Christina still on the show.

Sure... why not. The shows are very formulaic due to the compressed time. So alot of changes could probably not be made. But I'd be careful about saying stupid things to buyers and sellers, which I hear all the time on these shows.
