If you cannot afford an electronic lock box don't take the listing.

Sometimes you are better off hiding the key under a rock, like in the good old days!

Little, perhaps nothing,  truly surprises me.

I am, since I had to break into one for an agent in our office two weeks ago. This is the reason I will only use Supra boxes on my lisings.

Oh yeah. Combo boxes are also easy to just cut off with bolt cutters.
I want Supra boxes on listings - or key in the office.

If we MUST  (as with REOs) have a combo for the contractors/vendors . . . they are VERY well concealed.

Didn't know... but I use electronic lockboxes which I believe are safer and more universal in our area.

      I have two brass shirt collar stays in my toolbox.  I use those to turn the tumblers.   Same technique as the photo at the top of your blog post.

I'm alarmed at the number of agents who leave lock boxes unsecured sitting on the ground by the door so that people can just walk off with them.

I use the electronic supra boxes, but the majority of my listings are agent must accompany.

Hi Buzz Mackintosh.  I don't use the combo coxes and hadn't thought about hacking them - though I'm not at all surprised some have done it  and, of course, shared it in a video..

I was amazed when I saw one of these.

I don't use or recommend the use of Combo locks. We only use Supra Lockbox.

Nothing surprises me but I only use electronic boxes on listings. I only use combo boxes for vendors coming in and out on some homes that are vacant and getting ready to go on the market.

Not all of them are easy to pick. Sellers decide what type of lockbox they want on their house, or no lockbox at all. No type lockbox will stop someone from getting into a house if they want to break in.

Use the lockbox MLS recommends and you shouldn't have any issues.

I learned from a video online. I kept having lockboxes left by bank REO preservation companies. I learned how to get them off so I could free up the lockset for my buyers. Ultimately, they ended up in my lockbox collection. 

I hadn't paid attention to it, mainly use Supra boxes.  Very aware of what's out there on youtube land.

No.  They are not common in our town or other luxury locales.  The listing agent is at every showing....A

I've had no reason to know how easy it is nor would I hack a box unless I owned it and the contents. 

I hope this post in not in a public forum. Otherwise, we are promoting the subject-matter as to how to hack those boxes. I suggest this post be deleted.

That is really scarey for homeowners.

Combo or Electric box, neither is secure. I can break open an electric box and grab the key in less than 10 seconds. Combo boxes, 7 seconds. 

Everything you want to know about anything is on YouTube and yes, accessing these combo lock boxes is too darn easy Buzz.

Most definitely!  And add to that agents w ho don't scramble the code and what's the point of using a combo lock box?  Electronic lockboxes are the standard for me.
