I do not Raymond Henson .  I assume you are not talking about time shares here. When I lived in MN both were very common and I know that my folks rented out their lake cottage the first few years they owned it to help pay for it. That didn't last long but mostly because at the time my dad was an up and commer and payed it off pretty quickly.

no, we did have a home on Cape Cod but we used it as a second home.... we owned a condo on the Cape and rented it out with a yearly lease....not vacation rental....

No.  It would have to be a place I'd want to visit regularly.  My folks and I did look into buying a home in the Cotswolds when were were over there earlier this year.  Ended up doing the numbers and it just didn't make sense, even with AirBnB for when it wasn't in use.

We own a vacation home, we do not rent it out. We bought in Palm Springs we loved the area. Every year when we went down for our winter vacation we would stay in different area's and resorts. That helped us decide where we wanted to purchase.

I am located in a very desirable tourist area of the Great Smoky Mountains.  I do not own one, but most investors want to be in or around Pigeon Forge Tn.  More of my investors want Douglas Lake Property. It has the potential for  the best return on their investment and they can also use it when they need to.  There are management companies to take care of the rentals for all out of towners that want that kind of help.

I do not. I have owned other homes for my kids to live in while in college. One thing I'd consider if purchasing a vacation home is how often do I want to go to it. I live in Cary, NC. I'd love to have a property at the beach which is just a couple hours away. I could go often and could get to it fairly quickly if something went wrong. Many people here have beach or mountain homes or both. I'd love to own something on a FL beach but, I feel I wouldn't get there often enough.

I did and just sold my last. But i am searching for more. I chose Hampton Beach NH. The largest beach in NH, also the cleanest in the area. The rentals rates are very high. I never had had any vacant units. The timing was right to sell at a high value and look for a new project to buy low fix, build equity and rent again,

This is a pleasant subject to explore. I know of a guy who invests near military bases and recreational places. One way to get a fastrac is to look-up rentals in any area and read the ads, study location & note amenities

Research. I liked it, wanted to come back and knew others would also. AND, the data was readily available. The reality was, the data, if relied upon without my personal conviction, would have been a 'no go.'
