I am a bit surprised by the answers.   I am assisting two of the "kids" from years ago buy a home right now.    My checks are not big, just a gesture.  They remember.

It depends on the relationship.  Typcially we give those closer to us a gift cert for whatever the graduate perfers.....but this is more for college graduates, not high school.

I do not. I send a personal card. But no gifts or checks. I've only done a gift of a check once... to a client who considers me her second mom and for whom and to whom I've sold numerous houses. Plus, I was invited to her daughter's high school graduation party... I watched that little girl grow up since she was in diapers. But this is an exception and not the rule.

As much as I do for my clients, no. I do not buy gifts for their kids, just them at close and at my parties...unless its the birth of a child.

You are surprised by some answers here? You asked and here's mine...If am going to send checks to young people who graduate high school or college, it will be to my own family. It is up to other people to provide that type of gift to their own achievers!

Besides, aren't you supposed to provide the same service to ALL your clients, rather than just catering to 'A+ clients'?

If they send directly to me the graduation announcement, one must send a check.
A graduate that does not send to me the announcement may get a gift or the partents get a big sign to put in the front yard. A recommmend they put the ID of the GoFundMe account on the sign.

This hasn't been a concern for me since most of my clients' children and out of school and on their own but I think it would depend on your relationship with your clients, A+ or not. We are in a people business and there are always some clients that you "click" with and develop and ongoing relationship while others not so much. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, just what you feel is right for each situation.

A token of kindness is never a bad thing.  When I first started in this biz, I sent all of the students I knew that were graduating from high school a certificate for an ice cream cone.  It wasn't much but I acknowledged their achievement & they appreciated it.

There are very few of my clients with whom I am so close of a friend that I would contemplate a cash gift for an important event for their family.
