Home decor is an individual preference.  I have three small plants in my kitchen, two in the living room, and eight on my patio. None in my bedroom or office. I diffuse essential oils while I work and sleep.

Home Staging: I like plants at the front.  Inside it is a matter of "tastefully" placing plants, if any, without over-doing it.

YES I have many plants and YES I want those plants in your pic!
I just got a plant stand with grow lights for a corner that doesn't get much sun. Our homes were built to avoid the blistering west sun, so it faces south and north and has virtually no west facing windows. The essential oil diffuser is 32 oz LOL and it's mostly for adding moisture for the plants!
Also I have a Plant Parent app that diagnoses health of plants and what to do if it's not healthy. I have a large decorative fig (not pictured) that wasn't growing from the top. It told me the brown spots on lower leaves were giving it grief, how to fix (baking soda, dish soap water spray on the brown leaves) and it started fluffing out again!

Having said all that, this is what I enjoy in MY home. For decor in a listing, depends!

When I represented Builders either they or I would do the staging, depended on the builder Fred Griffin Florida Real Estate . We always used plants but we kept it simple.

Oh I love plants although I don't always manage to keep them alive lol My oldest child has gotten into succulents which are popping up all over my house. When it comes to staging, I use mostly fake plants and a couple of bouquets of fresh flowers for pops of color. I have yet to hear a complaint. Flowers are always a nice touch!

I have some real and fake plants in my house. I think the trick is to not overdo it, but everyone has different style tastes!

In our staged properties fake plants are used.  Plants add color and are nice, but for vacant homes they need to be fake.

In my house, I have a few succulents primarily because I can go a month (or more) without remembering to water them and they're just fine.  I have plenty of plants outside that I can easily see from the inside.  I don't get enough natural light to have the big green leafy plants that are great at cleaning the air.

I am not a plant person. I have not one single living plant in my own house as I manage to kill them all. I have an expensive artificial bamboo plant in my dining room which looks real. In staging homes I like plants to be at a minimum.

Our Team owns a staging company. Plants used for staging, especially in vacant homes, are not going to get watered. Thus, fake plants are used.

At home, my wife takes care of the inside plants and loves them. Outside we enjoy sharing the upkeep.

Hi Fred- in FL I had over 100 orchids but only a handful inside. I have Christmas cactus and 2 orchids. As for staging, like anything else, keep it to a minimum. A non-scent offending green plant adds life to a room.

I think plants are wonderful, cheerful and beneficial in cleansing air. As decor, they are among the most cost-effective. Professional staging is great, but tends to be pricey and sellers don't always want to pay for it. I've done virtual staging (labeled as such), to give buyers an idea of what an empty home might look like when furnished.

House plants for home staging or decor? Absolutely!

House plants breathe life into your space. They enhance air quality, boost moods, and add a touch of nature. Plus, they make your home feel inviting and cozy.

When selecting plants, consider your environment and preferences. Low-maintenance plants like snake plants or pothos work well for busy lifestyles. If you want something blooming, try peace lilies or African violets. Choose options that fit your style and care levels.

The number of plants depends on your space. For smaller areas, one or two can make an impact. In larger rooms, grouping a few plants together creates a beautiful focal point. Make sure the arrangement looks balanced and aesthetically pleasing.

It's crucial to think about allergies. Some plants can trigger reactions for sensitive individuals. Consider hypoallergenic options such as spider plants or bamboo palms. Always do your research to ensure your choices are safe for any furry friends at home. Many common houseplants can be toxic to pets, so pet-safe options like Boston ferns or parlor palms can be a better choice.

As for your home or office, plants can truly enhance the atmosphere. Think about where you spend the most time and choose plants that brighten those spaces. A small succulent on your desk or larger plants in your living room can transform your environment.

Adding plants shouldn't be stressful. Focus on what brings you joy and what fits your lifestyle. Happy decorating

We have plants at home and in the office and a lot of blooming stuff outside.  I recommend outside things to clients who are wanting to sell to dress up the yard and porch, but inside minimally and for the smell to be clean not fragrant.

I think plants are a nice touch, but not to overdo it.  I once had a seller who had over 100 plants on the main floor.   She let her neighbor take many while we were on the market.

I wish I had a green thumb, I do love plants but none inside the house. Like Nina Hollander, Broker they all die a slow death. The few I have outside need watering, so I go, thanks for the reminder on plants.

I am not a stager and know very little about design, but I would say your photo shows way too many plants, haha.  I have always thought that one in the corner of a room to give it some color looks great, with a piece of art or two on the walls.

Yes, yes, yes! We have plants inside and out and I do agree with plants for staging - just don't over-do it! Plants replace the carbon dioxide in your home with good old, fresh oxygen. They also remove carcinogens (Benzene & even Formaldehyde) from the air in your home. And, guess what? Even the soil in those plants helps clean your home's air!

The first one are my Christmas cacti in my kitchen and the last 2 are in my office - the succulent I've had for 3-4 years and it has just gone gangbusters! The peace lily is not blooming at the moment but, it blooms several times a year.

I have at least 1 plant in every room of my home.  My terrace has 3.  As Olga and Lew stated clean the air, infuse your space.  My listings, however, are another story especially if they are vacant.  I usually add colorful silk flower plants to brighten the mood of purchasing sooner rather than later.

Plants are important for air quality and aesthetics, however care should be taken to avoid that look of a jungle greenhouse.

If we were to put our house on the market 90 percent of our plants would need to go.

Fred I've been staging homes for literally all my career.  Here in PHX I don't use live plants, don't think I ever did unless a client had some. And...we never used A LOT of plants, less is more.  Same goes for my home and office....no real plants just very real looking ones.

I think plants (even artificial) bring life to a home. I've been in staged homes that are so stale. We have a few plants indoors. Actually, at the moment my dining room is more of a plant nursery because we moved all our hibiscus plants indoor to protect them from the cold. Normally, we have a few plants in our house and a lot on our porch and deck.
