I am referring all of my clients to Homes.com anyway. I have found that they prefer their platform more. 

Secondly, why people love Matterport, I'll never know (they make me dizzy)! BUT, my clients love them and I have them done for all of my listings.

Zillow’s Ongoing Feud With CoStar

Plot twist: While Zillow dominates overall real estate volume, according to property tech strategist Mike Delprete, a scholar-in-residence at the University of Colorado Boulder, it still trails CoStar’s Apartments.com when it comes to visits to its rental site. 

There’s a lot of cash at stake. Apartments.com generated $1 billion in income in 2024.

In the first half of 2025, Zillow’s multifamily rental business earned around $200 million, while Apartments.com generated over $570 million, accounting for 38% of total company revenue. The increased focus on rentals has seen both companies grow significantly over the last two years. 

However, Zillow is gaining, cutting Apartments.com’s lead by 50% in 24 months. Things have grown increasingly contentious between the two real estate juggernauts. CoStar is currently suing Zillow over multifamily photo copyright infringement, with potential for $1 billion in damages.

Massive budgets and cash flows for monopolies.  CoStar is a conglomerate with all their mergers and acquisitions. They are the now company and the gotcha with fees in the future.

Zillow seemed to be perfect as social media draw but not fairing so well in the property people business and the now buyers.

We just received an email yesterday from our MLS that we must remove all Co-Star content, Homes.com content and Matterport content from any of our listings. Even the closed listings. CRMLS in Southern California.

Edit: CRMLS just sent another email 10-21-2025 stating that CoStar and Matterport media does not have to be removed from listings.

We own two Matterport cameras and have produced hundreds of these tours for our brokerage. They became extremely valuable during Covid when sellers were concerned about letting potential buyers into their home; often they required buyers to have viewed the Matterport before the tour to make sure the layout and features of the home worked for the buyers' needs. Now, with Zillow being so problematic, we are also producing Zillow 3D tours, but wish we didn't have to do so. The lawsuits being thrown back and forth may result in more changes.
