My Grandma Nelson retired from real estate in 2007, after 50 years as a REALTOR and the broker of Nelson Real Estate... and she had just turned 90 years old.

As I always share with folks on their birthday:

In my opinion, it's never too late to do anything you want to do.

Colonel Sanders started his KFC business at 65.

Bernard Marcus started Home Depot at 50.

Charles Flint started what became IBM at 61.

Laura Ingalls Wilder started writing Little House on the Prairie books at 65.

Grandma Moses started professionally painting at 76.

And so on!

As for ActiveRain, I'd think the average age of active posters would be around 55, based on photos.

I don't think age is as important as having the proper expectations. Speak to some current Realtors and, more importantly, some agents that left the business. Find out why they left. This can be a stressful job.

Age at this point in time is a state of mind. Some are old at 25 and some are young at 75. I won't embarrass anybody 25 but a prime example of young at 92 the mother-in-law of Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® CRS,ABR,PSA,RCS-D, CFSP who just was in Japan for her first in person Sumo match.

Anyone who truly cares about others and has a willingness to learn all they can about real estate will be really good in real estate, no matter what age they are.

As long as you know what you are talking about, you are in the game, whatever it is you are playing. Real estate requires you keep current as do all the professions. On Active Rain blogger ages, the youth have that bon vivant, exuberance & newness while the more mature take their time & approach with a savoring type of sharing. Good question thank you Andrew Mooers | 207.532.6573

"Never too late", I used to believe this statement, however, as I get older I am finding a lot of things that would have been better to take off work and dive into when I was a lot younger.

As far as the age of the rainers that spend their days around the water cooler of AR, they are likely much older than that average.

The younger members of AR are likely out there hustling to get enough work to feed their families and dont have time to spend time here complaining about the many inactive members.

Fortunately I am old enough and have a great team behind me to enable me to spend my hour or two a day wasting time online while they get the job done.

Interesting question for this time of year.  Age is relative.

We definitely need more young people in the business and as bloggers. I may be the oldest ActiveRain blogger.

The average age of realtors is around 55 to 60 years old, according to recent data from the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and other sources. The median age has been increasing, with one 2023 report stating it is 60, and 52% of respondents being over 60. This is significantly older than the average age of real estate agents in general, which is around 49, according to Zippia.

It is never too late.  It may be a case of being too lazy, self-doubt, or a laundry list of other "excuses". There is no better time than now to just do it, or follow a desire or dream.

I love the phrase It's OnlyToo Late After You Die. I'd think the average member here is in their 50s but I'm terrible with age. As long as you have the desire, passion and ability to do what you want to do, then go for it.

my "calling" was not real estate, but I don't mind helping my wife with her business.  She's great at it so I got licensed in my 40s to assist her better than I could unlicensed when I was limited.

The avg age on ActiveRain is much higher than average. I am 51 and my sense is that I am really young vs so many of the typical member. As to starting this career later in life- age is but a number. In NYC, an agent starting in rentals tends to involve a lot of shoe leather- so walking 5-12 miles a day especially in May-Sept, might be too much for someone older, but in most of the nation agents aren't walking anywhere near that much or any other intense physical activity.

A real estate license is uniqute in the fact that it is easy to obtain, can be used for multiple purposes and is a nice tool to have in your belt.  There is no limit by age as to when you should get the license.
