Pickleball is big at PebbleCreek.  We have an awesome pickleball club with lots of talented members and we have lots of pickleball courts.  On Memorial Day, our club was able to bring in a Pickleball Hall of Fame guest player, Mark "Yoda" Friedenberg, to play some exhibition games with some of our top players.  It was really fun to watch the high level of play and get a chance to meet Mark. After the exhibition matches, they gave us all a chance to put our name tags into a hat for the chance to play with or against Mark.  My name was picked!  I teamed up with Mark for one game.  Here he is imparting some of his knowledge to the relatively new kid on the block.  Yes, I do have a lot to learn! It was a very fun experience and I am very thankful to our PebbleCreek Pickleball Club for putting...

Everyone wants a porch they can be proud of, one that not only adds to the curb appeal of their home but also evokes a cozy and welcoming feeling in anyone who knocks on their door. Begin with a few basic pieces of furniture and décor that you can update as the seasons change. You can never go wrong with these porch décor ideas for all seasons. Make comfortable outdoor seating. The first step in making your front porch look welcoming is to include comfortable furniture. This will make visitors feel at ease. Consider a garden bench with outdoor chair cushions or traditional wicker loveseats. Good seating is essential for starting conversations or simply providing a place for people to relax.  To maintain a consistent look, match your porch or patio dining chairs and couches with your indo...

Are you familiar with the Wounded Warrior Project?  As a very brief synopsis, Charity Navigator rates this organization at a 97% for transparency and 89% for financial handling.  No less than 70% of the financial donations go directly to the Wounded Warriors in one form or another.  I chose to donate to this organization last year when a veteran relative of Diane's passed away suddenly last year.  We gave a generous donation under my name, and they have been sending me gentle gifts ever since. Earlier last week, the Wounded Warrior Project sent me a very touching letter that accompanied a Challenge Coin.  Many Americans who have not served in the military have never seen a Challenge Coin, let alone hold one in their hand.  It came to be as certain military commanders sometimes issued Ch...

Recipe - Blueberry Cottage BowlYes, I'm going out on a limb here, knowing that ½ of the population doesn't like cottage cheese...BUT, you can substitute yogurt if you don't like it! I've been trying to be consistent watching my weight for the past year. Two of the biggest points that I learned when doing the previous diet I was on, was eating 5-6 times a day and drinking at least 90 oz of water helped me tremendously. Prior to that diet, I would go all day without eating, only having dinner with Ray - that was it. When you do that, your body goes into fat-save mode and it holds onto everything you eat because it thinks you may not feed it again.I am a total believer in this because when I was in college, nutrition was a big focus for us when it came to my nursing curriculum. We learned ...

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – Starting last week, the IRS commenced sending out Audit and Exam Notices to Taxpayers.  Most of the IRS notices given to me by potential clients have dealt specifically with payroll tax issues.  With this increase in audit activity, one thing I have noticed is that most of the taxpayers receiving these audit or exam notices are businesses that received the ERC.  In addition, the quarter or quarters being audited are the same quarters where the taxpayer qualified for the ERC.Over the next few weeks, I will be blogging about and highlighting what the IRS is looking at when it comes to ERC claims.  From what I see based on news releases from the IRS and posts on LinkedIn by the IRS is that the IRS is focusing on what it calls “ERC Mills”.  Here is a link to the IRS w...

Farmers Markets in North San Diego County Farmers Markets are a great way to find fresh fruits and vegetables every week, and to support the local farming community. But farmers markets have evolved to offer so much more than fruits and vegetable, including a range of artisanal foods (meats, cheeses, specialty juices, pastries/cakes/pies, honey), hot and cold foods, and more depending on the particular market and the size. The farmers markets here in SoCal operate year round, given our weather, with offerings varying depending on the season and availability. Here are some of the local farmers markets in North San Diego County. State Street Farmers Market, Carlsbad Village is open on Wednesdays from 2:30 until 7 pm (Daylight Saving Time hours – closes at 6 pm during standard time Novembe...

We all have thoughts about Artificial Intelligence for better or for worse. The month of June brings a challenge here in the Rain sponsored by Kat Palmiotti to write down our thoughts on the subject. Well, someone once said the "clear writing gives poor thinking nowhere to hide". After I post this many may disagree as you may think I have reduced poor thinking to poor writing. It appears that technology is not something that humankind can control. Once we find it, it changes the world in ways we can never fully understand. As one who has been slow to adapt to technology, I can attest to that thought. and while I now use some limited technology I personally do not understand it although I can see the need for some of it.I imagine that it can have tremendous benefits in the medical field wi...

There is a Biblical saying "Guard your heart". Now many folks think that means to never fall in love. They are wrong. In Biblical times your heart was also a reference to the thoughts in your mind. To guard one's heart meant to avoid negative input. Avoid negative TV shows. Avoid negative movies. Avoid negative music. Avoid negative people (I know - that may mean losing 30% of your contacts on your phone. LOL). Most importantly, focus on what is good and what is right and let that be predominant in your thoughts. Here is a focus for today:

Everybody Wants a Place to LiveIt's Spring and the most active time of year for house hunting. It's also the time of year when the birds and the bees are active and looking to increase the animal population.I take precautions around the house in sheltered areas as the bees like to start hives that will cause us issues later in the year.I also see birds flying into the tops of trees around the yard most likely to their nests.Birds will seek out sheltered spaces for nesting and some of them are somewhat unusual.I have been seeing a lot of birds flying around our front stoop and didn't think much of it.  My wife will place decorative wreaths on our front door, appropriate for the season.Obviously, someone thought it looked like a very welcome spot.Hopefully the eggs will hatch, and I will ...

Many older residential properties face a common and often frustrating problem - that of low water pressure. The issue can manifest in various ways, from a weak flow of water out of faucets and showers to inadequate hot water supply caused by a poorly functioning boiler. Low water pressure can make everyday tasks like washing dishes, taking showers, and doing laundry a time-consuming chore. In this article, we will explore the reasons behind low water pressure in older homes, suggest potential solutions available for homeowners, address preventative measures to ensure adequate water flow for residents, and discuss how to manage water damage service cost.Understanding Water PressureWater pressure is a measure of the force with which water flows through pipes. This force helps determine ho...
