Real  Estate Sales Advice-Fair Housing Words To AvoidAs a regulated industry under increased scrutiny, it's important from time to time to review the rules of the road. Let's review some words or phrases we should steer clear of when advertising. 1) Home is located in a quiet, safe neighborhood-- This one is tough, after all what buyer doesn't seek a peaceful place to live? Seems like this would be marketing gold? We cannot define what "safe" means. About the best you can do is refer to local law enforcement for updated statistics (beware of info posted online, go straight to the source!)2) Perfect home for State University Students--Again, proximity to a local college/university can be a major selling point. But what if as a potential buyer I was rejected by State U? In my opinion (not...

Friday Fun..Pumpkins For several weeks I’ve seen pumpkins everywhere. My H-E-B has green pumpkins, white ones (I love white pumpkins), and traditional orange pumpkins. There are ones small enough for a child to carry and Texas sized pumpkins. There are also pumpkins with bumps all over them, tall ones and short ones. And some that look perfect for carving! Larry and I used to carve pumpkins each Halloween. Living in the south, you learn that carving too early could result in rotted, sunken orange ick!  Our pumpkins fell in the traditional/not-so-creative category. I love seeing what other, more artistic pumpkin carvers create. Inasmuch as neither one of us wants to try to make something out of the insides of the carved pumpkin, we opt now for faux pumpkins!  So for some Friday Fun…what ...

Thank you, Carol Williams and Frank Worrell, for hosting the October 2024 Active Rain Challenge. Picking 3 tech tools to talk about had me putting my thinking cap on the last few days trying to decide what three I was going to talk about. Last night something happened and I knew instantly what one of the tech tools would be!uPersonal Emergency – The iPhone SOS FeatureMy iPhone's Emergency SOS was put to the test last night, and it proved invaluable. My daughter had selected; her husband, son, oldest daughter Hailey in NY and myself as her emergency contacts. Last night I was talking to my brother and sister-in-law when an alert came in from Melissa. Her phone had called 911 immediately upon the collision she was involved in and all 4 of us were sent an alert with a map to the exact loca...

Growing fruit trees at home is both rewarding and practical. Whether you’re aiming for a small backyard orchard or just a few trees in your garden, cultivating fruit trees can provide fresh produce right outside your door. Here are a few easy tips for growing and caring for your fruit trees. 1. Choose the Right Tree for Your ClimateThe first step is selecting the right type of fruit tree. Not all trees grow well in every region. For example, apple trees thrive in cooler climates, while citrus trees love warmth. It's essential to research which trees are best suited for your specific location. A great resource is the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map, which helps identify your growing zone and suggests ideal trees for your area. 2. Planting and SpacingOnce you’ve chosen your tree, plant it i...

Inventory Growth: More Homes Hitting the Market in 2024The tight housing inventory that has characterized the market in recent years is expected to ease in 2024, with more homes being listed for sale. This increase in inventory is good news for buyers, who have been competing in a low-supply, high-demand environment. Why It Matters: More homes on the market mean more options for buyers and less competition. Sellers will need to price homes competitively as more listings come online. What You Can Do: Take advantage of the increased inventory by finding your dream home with less competition! If you’re a seller, now is the time to list before the market becomes oversaturated.“The inventory crunch is easing—is your dream home just around the corner?”“Let me guide you through the growing mark...

Friday Flags: A Bank Office That Shows Its PrideA drive on Rt 63 in Naugatuck, CT on a bit of a windy day offered me a number of opportunities to take some flag photos.I stopped for the first flutter I saw and by the time I got out pf the car the wind had subsided. The building is the main offices of Ion Bank, which is memory is right are the administrative offices of what was once Naugatuck Savings Bank. As I wasn't in a rush, so I waited a few minutes to see if I would get a better shot. My flag patience is often rewarded, and I succeeded.I pass a lot of banks and don't understand why more don't display the flag. Maybe some accountant believes that the time spent to raise and lower it daily cuts into profits? Friday Flags: A Bank Office That Shows Its Pride

It seems that people need a laugh – especially on Friday. So, we dig back in to classic comedy scenes from a much better age of television. Some clips I found from past TV comedy when TV comedy meant something far different from today. A more innocent time and a time of real quality. Hope you enjoy the clips. Due to the length, there is just 1 clip per week. Enjoy!

Leaf raking season has once again begun in Northern States like North Dakota. Raking leaves can be work but it can also be fun. As our kids were growing up they never tired of playing in the leaves and even having their pets play with them. The pic above is the real Titus (guinea pig) that you have enjoyed in Timmothy's daily cartoons. The pic below is Timmothy in the leaves about 12 years ago.If you do not have kids and you just want the leaves gone BUT you don't ant to hire the job out you still have options. #1) Mow and bag. Be prepared to empty that lawn mower bag often. #2) Rake. Do it on a non-windy day, often a trick in North Dakota. #3) Round them up with a leaf blower. This method is the most fun. You start at the edges of your yard and blow everything to the middle and then bag...
