The last blog with all that scientific information about dams and things has made me long for something simple that I can almost understand.....like ghosts! This half of the stereoscopic view provided to us by Melanie Murphy from Judsonia is full of mystery.  Look at those folks in the side grounds.  They sure have a ghostly look, don't they.  At first I thought there were four pieople in the picture and then I started seeing more. Are there three ladies on the side...or four...or more? It makes me wonder if the images would show up clearer if viewed through the required viewer for these double frames. Do you know any of these people or the location where it was taken?

Here's our latest contribution to our blog sent by James Whitmore, our blog friend who has sent us some great pictures. Does anyone know where this would have been?  The writing says, "View of Damsite near Judsonia Ark. By A E Burton" The back of the card is shown below. Here is what James says about the card. This scan of a postcard shows and tellsabout a dam being build on the Little Red River at Judsonia. It was being mailed by the Judsonia Chamber of Commerce. Maybe some of your readers can fill us in on what happen tothis project.James So, Sleuths, can you tell us more about the card?

Isn't this a charming old house?  Built around 1937 per courthouse records.  I have it listed right now for a mere $25,500.  It needs some work but is full of memories. Look at these two things that I found in the shop building. How many remember when our parents and grandparents had to include a horseshoe over the doorway for luck! I certainly do and this shop still had one hanging up there. Also see if you can figure out what went on at this workbench. Ok, young folks, notice the jar lids that are nailed to a board?  Those were to screw on jars....jars which could hold nails, screws, or anything you might need.  Notice the big nails on the same board?  Those were excellent for hanging things.  And then the loops were made for inserting things like screw drivers, hammers, etc.  They a...

I wish I could read what the sign says.  I can read Public sale but below that I can make out only a few words. This is another picture from the stereoscopic views of Judsonia that was scanned and loaned to me for this blog by Melanie Murphy from Judsonia. It is a great one showing a Land Office and the Post Office.  Perhaps some of our readers can explain what is going on in the picture.

James Whitlow has sent us another picture for this blog.  It is one that I have never seen and indicates that in 1908 a Mr. Farris had a transportation company.  Perhaps he transported folks up or down river by boat?  Or he transported freight.  Writing on the front says it is in Judsonia ARK.  Thanks, James. Wonder where this was in Judsonia?

This photo was provided by Donnie Miller, lifetime resident of White County Arkansas who knows everone in the county.  He serves as President of Regions Bank in Searcy Arkansas and appreciates the history of our area.  In this photo, his mother is in the center and his grandmother is on the left and the one bringing up the berries is unknown. Read underneath the picture to see how important this area was in harvesting strawberries. Interesting today is the bonnet wear on all three ladies.  Have caps taken over?  Even with the girls? I also like the outfits of the girls.  I think Grandmother must have had on a dress and cotton stockings and surely that neck treatment is a dress and not the heavy beads that ladies are wearing now.  Donnie's mother is sweet as a strawberry in her overalls!...

If houses could talk, that might be what this house would say.  It is located right across the street from the Judsonia Arkansas mansion that survived the 1952 tornado.  We have featured the mansion several times in blogs with the latest perhaps being this one.  First, let's review the after-the-tornado photograph. Now look to the right and see the house that has lost a porch but still has the porch rails.  And then check out this house that we had listed for sale probably way back in the 80's. The porch rails still look lovely.  The porch has been reattached and trees are growing. Here it is today, a proud survivor and deserving more attention.

The last blog was about the mansion in Judsonia that stood strongly through the 1952 Judsonia AR tornado.  Driving through downtown Judsonia will show you some buildings that didn't make it very well but still stand.  This one could be turned into an abstract painting because it has so much muted color and fascinating details.  Take a look. Can't you just visualize it when it was a store or a movie house or a gathering place of some kind? Here's the side view. And for our artistic closeup, study this one.  I lowered the resolution for this blog but in high resolution photography it is beautiful.  Perhaps the Searcy Sleuths can tell us what this used to be.

I wrote a blog about the deadly tornado that destroyed Judsonia Arkansas in 1952.  I received email from a lady who survived that tornado.  At the time of the blog she was battling water in her basement from a flood where she now lives.  But she promised to write down her memories of the tornado and get them to me.  Yesterday she did that.  This is the most vivid story of a survivor.  I left it as she wrote it and if you don't have time to read it right now, bookmark it and come back because it's a very well-written memory from Oleta Brill, telling how she survived and what it was like.  I'm enclosing the photos of the damage and the present day photo of the mansion that she refers to.                                                        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~As a girl I remember J...

I blogged a few weeks ago about the vicious tornado that killed so many people in Judsonia Arkansas and left fear in the hearts of all survivors.  I had to go to Judsonia this week and because of blogging interest decided to drive by and see the mansion that survived the tornado.  I'm posting the picture of that mansion and again posting the picture that shows it after the tornado.  The tornado was in 1952. It had quite a few flaws but it still looks pretty grand, doesn't it.

Two days ago I wrote about Judsonia AR, White County, and how in 1952 it was almost wiped out by a vicious tornado. Over 50 people were killed and the town never recovered.  The ones who lived through it and even the ones who were miles away came away with fear that never subsides.  This photo is one that shows damages on a block or two.  Strangely enough the mansion at the back of the photo made it through.  The house at the back right also survived enough to be livable.  In fact, at one point in the last 25 years I had the house listed.  The front porch had been ripped off and was replaced.  I recognized it when I saw this picture.  It was made of strong stuff!

What an extreme pleasure to put a big SOLD sign across this property that I blogged about about a month ago.  Selling agents were great to work with, buyers were nice and the owners of the house kept it super nice for showing.  And it only took one or two showings to get it sold.  Thanks to my lovely friends who are now moving to another chapter in their lives!! SOLD I wrote this blog just a few days ago and now I have the listing on this lovely house located at 105 Christopher in Judsonia.  It is a truly better than new house!  It has 1 1/2 lots with wide side yards large enough to drive to the backyard and store an RV.  Inside it has a split bedroom floor plan and oak cabinetry.  Privacy fenced back yard.  Meticulously maintained.  Only $135,000. Receiving the call to "come and tell m...

SOLD   SOLD SOLD SOLD SOLD!!So very many people love the country.  Searcy AR is surrounded with lovely country areas.  Most popular is probably the area to the North and to the West.  This small house is a foreclosure property.  It had some eager persons trying to fix it up and they either ran out of money or out of energy.  Especially nice is the job they did on the cabinetry in the living room. The property included is less than an acre but it still has quite a bit of privacy.  It has two bedrooms, one bath and a large and fairly nice laundry room.  It does need finishing but if you love country, you should check it out!
