  Who Flies Over a Gun Club?   While hanging out over in Angels Camp on Highway 49 in Calaveras County, I came across this sign posted on the power pole. The pole was located near the Fairgrounds in Calaveras County; “Frogtown” as the locals call it. You remember Mark Twain writing about the jumping frogs of Calaveras right?   The whole area has frogs as a theme, Mark Twain appears to have put the county on the map. This still doesn't explain the sign. Who flys over a gun club in Calaveras County? A why are people shooting at anything that flies over the club? During a break in the volunteer work, I got a chance to walk around the grounds at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. JUMPING FROG CONTEST OF CALAVERAS COUNTY   JUMPING FROG CONTEST OF CALAVERAS COUNTY  Our neighbors across the street "jump frogs' as they put it.  That means they participate in the Jumping Frog Contest of Calaveras County.  The family is now in Angels Camp jumping their frogs.  They have been participating in the jumping frog contests for years.      And every year our  neighborhood gets a chance to participate vicariously . The family buys their frogs two weeks in advance of the contest.  During the two weeks they test their frogs to be sure they are good candidates for the real contest. They test their frogs in the middle of the street.  And all the neighbors, kids and passersby stop and watch for awhile.  Its fun for the whole neighborhood.     The contest is going on now in Angels ... 05/21/2011

I think this might just be the best week out of this winter to come up and play some golf. The easy drive from Stockton or Sacramento is very enjoyable and will give you piece of mind and time to relax. The sun is peeking through the clouds and the weather man has promised the mid 60's all week. Bring your clubs and your friends and enjoy this wonderful 18 hole course.
