I previously wrote about the Monarch Butterfly nursery on our back patio on April 12. At that time we were able to see 11 caterpillars of various sizes.In the last few days the caterpillars started leaving the milkweed plants and crawling onto the table, the patio window, and the edge of one of the flowerpots. Within a day or so we could only find 3 of the 11 caterpillars. Hopefully the others found safe places to hang for the next stage, the chrysalis (pupa). We have looked around but haven't been able to find them so they are either well hidden or perhaps became some bird's dinner.One caterpillar is on the edge of a flowerpot and is not looking very healthy, but there are 2 that have now formed the chrysalis - one on window frame (above) and the other on the edge of the another flower...

FHA 30 year fixed loans are being used to buy Carlsbad real estate. FHA loans require only a small down payment and the underwriting is much more lenient than conventional financing.  FHA loans are the primary source of home loans nationwide and are being used by both excellent credit and no credit borrowers. I subscribe to Jeff Dowler's blog, Carlsbad real estate -ReMax Moonlight Beach.  He blogged about Shawn Studer and his Instant Organic Garden. I left a comment that was becoming lengthy so why not share my stories here instead! This is a picture of our home grown Roma tomatoes.  This is our 5th harvest.  We harvest about 3,000 + tomatoes per season from an average of 30 plants. This year we are starting new plants in the middle of summer and will replace some of the older plants with new to see if we will get a stronger harvest. What does one do with that many tomatoes?  We cold pack (canning) some, cook some down with garlic, basil, oregano, thyme, bell pepper and onion which are also grown in our garden and make fantastic pasta sauces.  Of course we give many away to family, neighbors...

Organic Gardening with Instant Organic Garden in San Diego   We had an Instant Organic Garden built at our Carlsbad home recently. As big fans of fresh produce, we enjoy growing some fresh vegetables, especially tomatoes and squash, but admittedly we are not all that great at it. Carlsbad Triathlon 2010 and Health Expo   It's that time of year again, for the popular Carlsbad Triathlon and Health Expo, being held this weekend, July 10 and 11. The Health Expo is Saturday and the race in Sunday.  The Carlsbad Triathlon is one of the 5 longest running triathlon events in the world.  The Carlsbad Triathlon is a sprint race, with a 1K open water ocean swim, a 25K bicycle ride, and a 5K run. The race is sold out, with 1000 participants at all levels from beginner to elite.  The course begins at Tamarack Surf Beach at Route 101/the Coast Highway and runs along the coast. Roads will be closed so the race is considered very safe.
