The annual Healdsburg Water Carnival is coming next weekend to Memorial Beach in Healdsburg. This has been a Sonoma County tradition since 1905. The carnival hasn't exactly been uninterrupted, WWII, and the retrofitting of the Healdsburg bridge have caused the festival to skip some years. The carnival brings in thousands of guests who want to enjoy a safe (lifeguarded) place to swim while enjoying water floats, a 60' water slide, music, food, and vendors from around the county. This year, the carnival benefits Sonoma County Regional Parks "Water Safety Patrol" program. The program consists of bilingual parks staff and lifeguards who travel up and down the river passing out free life vests for nonswimmers who want to play in the water. Come enjoy this one-day festival Saturday, July 15th...

Not everyone has to have a sheetrock ceiling. This home in the Dry Creek Valley has a spectacularly crafted open beam ceiling with knot-free wood for the exposed sheathing. It's a stunning display of builder's art and architectural tradition executed with appreciation for the materials that allow this free span roof.

Great beauty doesn't have to be complicated. Choice of color, patterns, and materials can create wonder and harmony. This snapshot of a small section of an entrance to a home in Healdsburg is simple, but the overall impact of the larger wall and path is major. This is a soothing location and also an indicator that the inside of the house will be as carefully considered.

I'm always amazed that mild weather California has almost as dramatic a color display as New England. Almost. It's hard to match east coast maples and other hardwoods. We give it a try with our vineyards. Today's image is looking north in the Dry Creek Valley and features the full fall palette.

There are few things more charming than a white picket fence. This Healdsburg property has a couple of modest bungalows, but the grace of the property isn't provided by the structures, but by the fence and front garden it frames. It doesn't hurt to have a major tree like the walnut in this yard, but the fence, by itself, defines this property.

Great News on Sewer Hook Up Fee’s in Healdsburg   The City of Healdsburg has announced that the fee’s charged for connecting a commercial business in Healdsburg are being reduced dramatically. When there was a Redevelopment Agency in Healdsburg the high fee’s were to be bought down with grants and a variety of programs over the years. The RDA is gone and we have a new fee structure in place.   For example, a property like 465 Healdsburg Avenue in Healdsburg which is located at the northern boundary of the Downtown Business District is currently being used as an office building. This is the perfect location for a restaurant with a wonderful garden area behind it much like Barndiva or Brava’s. The challenge of converting it to a restaurant has been the fee’s to accomplish this.   Under t...

Healdsburg Real Estate likes Good Termite Inspectors We are in Califorrnia and the homes here must look like a giant salad bar for termites. They are part of our lives and a good termite inspector with a construction background will help preserve that investment. I strongly recommend the inspector not be from a company that does repair also. You see, when they are bidding repairs they are able to jack the price up of those repairs to prices somewhere in the stratosphere. Yes the type of inspector I use is a bit more, $250.00 where I live verses $175.00 but they will get way more money out of you in the long run. I also suggest that unless you are in an area that is really wet that you go with the traditional inspector. A good inspector will find the deficiencies every time. If not they ...

www.santarosapestcontrol.com    707-570-2000   Ron Bibler   Carpenter ants are a very common home invader in California. Normally they are found in logs, tree stumps. However, they will invade our homes in search a for food. Carpenter ants do not eat wood like a termite they tunnel into a board or wall or ceiling and excavate the building materials like foamed insulation board to make a satellite nests. Carpenter ants can cause structural damage. We can find them in the city and in our country homes. All over the North-Bay. Marin/Sonoma and up the California coast. In a home in Healdsburg I found Carpenter eggs in one part of a walls framing. Now in this same wall one board over was an infestation of Subterranean termites. Strange bed-fellows. Subterranean termites and Carpenter a...

This has to be one of the most photographed barns in the wine country. The hillside is gorgeous, the old head-pruned vines are very photogenic, and the barn has the classic aged red paint that generations of Americans have come to expect. This photo shows the very early emergence of the yellow mustard that will dominate the landscape of Dry Creek valley for months.

Local Real Estate Market Here it is the second week of 2013 and I am very excited about the prospects for this year. I had the best holidays filled with lots of great food, friends and family. I hope you did as well. I am hearing that there is no inventory out there. I went through my inventory and I have 11 properties with willing sellers. They are willing to sell if the price is right. All of these folks have had their property on the market or have been waiting to list when prices are going up. I do have to say this at this point. Let your experienced Realtor price your property. We know the market and if we have any doubt as to pricing, whether buying or selling we have teams of experts to get the best for you.   Here is my take on the current Local Real Estate Market using 3 homes ...

I swear, occupancy checks get more and more interesting every day. While trying to find a foreclosed home WAY up in the hills of Healdsburg, I came across a gate with 21 locks attached to it. One lock belongs to Pacific Gas & Electric, another belongs to the phone company. I'm assuming all of the others are for the many residents who live on this road. I parked my car and hiked in, but I never did find the house. I came across one of the residents who accused me of trespassing and refused to open the gate. I guess I can't blame him, for all he knows I could be an ax murderer. But, all is well, we had a long conversation and exchanged phone numbers. I'll call him first before I step foot past this gate again. I see a lot of exercise in my near future, trying to find this house. The pr...

Healdsburg has been home to a burst of home touring activity this summer as Sunset has featured a Blu Home in town as their 2012 Idea House. It's great to have the attention on the town and a very green home that offers an alternative to both stick building and traditional modular construction. If you aren't already acquainted with the Blu Home company and construction technology, it's worth your time to get to know them. I have been impressed with the quality of the construction and materials. This isn't your father's modular or your grandfather's double wide. This is a state of the art, energy efficient home with precision construction that you can only get by building in a factory under controlled conditions. What makes it appealing in today's world besides the obvious benefits of gr...

The North County Council of Realtors distributed the money that we earned from our annual Fall Golf Tournament. We presented The Healdsburg Food Pantry a check for $5,200.00 and the Seniors Meals on Wheels a check for the same amount. This is the exact reason that we are always pushing to SHOP LOCAL. It has been a really tough year for Realtors and we can still all rally to get together to raise money for those that really need us. I love the term Co-Petition. The undying spirit to rally with competitors for the greater good. This goes way deeper than this money and golf thing. The folks at Meals on Wheels are angels. Angels that are reaching out to those that are homebound. This has proven to be a lifesaving service. These angels have found folks in such distress that if they had not b...
