Those in the know know that living in the Hayes Valley area of San Francisco is trendy, hip and fun! Located conveniently close to the Civic Center you're as likely to see residents on bicycles as in cars. The newest condo development is 450 Hayes and yes, Fido is welcome here. In fact, two Fidos are welcome per unit as long as they are non-aggressive breeds.  As if Hayes Valley wasn't trendy enough, the 450 Hayes development is taking it to the next level. With its cleverly designed and very aesthetically pleasing exterior, it sits between Ivy Street and Hayes Street, with boutiques, restaurants, cars and the park all just a crosswalk away! These units are in high demand and selling quickly.Last week two penthouse units were available. They are perched on the fourth floor, each with a u...

Several cities -- San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, and San Diego -- have an Opaque Restaurant. While we have a zillion restaurants to choose from here in San Francisco, Opaque is unique - one dines in total darkness! Recently, when my husband and I headed off for vacation my daughter and son-in-law stayed in our condo in San Francisco. We had sent them the following picture, with the challenge of identifying where the photo was taken. If they did so correctly, and if they sent or posted a picture of one of them on the green bench, we would take them to dinner at Opaque in San Francisco. They did, and we will - next Friday night is our special dining experience, in total darkness. Will it be fun? Will it be intimidating? Will I knock over my glass of wine? How will my husban...

Buying a Condo in San Francisco One of my favorite buyer clients are a couple - I'll call them Jake and Dan. They live in Sonoma and were looking for a pied-a-terre in San Francisco for when they want to enjoy the nightlife and cultural activities. Dan also goes to school part trime and needs a place to crash. A small 1 bedroom under $500k would be ideal. I had never met them before I got a call from Jake asking about a particular condo he found on the internet. He thought it was our listing. I told him up front that it wasn't but I explained how it was better to have his own buyer agent to represent and negotiate for him. He agreed! We made plans to view that condo and a few others the next day, on Friday the 13th. His partner Dan couldn't make it, but we had to make it that day becaus...

The 31st annual SF Jazz Festival, June 12-23, 2013, is just around the corner and tickets are on sale and going fast. Many of the performances will be held in the new SF Jazz Center, the first-of-its-kind performance center built specifically to showcase jazz. Located at 201 Franklin Street, it is in the heart of Hayes Valley, close to the Civic Center, SF Symphony Hall, bus transportation, parking lots and restaurants -- all you need for an evening of music is close at hand. Performers include the Stefano Bollani Trio, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Pacific Mambo Orchestra and many other performers and groups including one of my favorites, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir. Come to the City for an evening or two of fun, or better yet, let me help you find your own place here; there are som...

This is the opening week of the long-awaited San Francisco Jazz Center. Situated at the corner of Franklin and Fell Streets in the Hayes Valley neighborhood, ribbon cutting ceremony and tours of the building began today. All tours were sold out in advance, which bodes well for the SF Jazz Center - we're excited to have it here in our midst. Opening night concert, Wednesday January 23, is also sold out, but can be enjoyed by the rest of us on NPR Radio. The Schedule of Artists coming between now and June is posted, so you have plenty of time to find some great concerts to enjoy. The Hayes Valley neighborhood already is home to many of the city's great music venues, Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall, SF Conservatory of Music, Herbst Theatre, SF War Memorial Opera House - now jazz has its own...

I almost feel like I'm cheating on Pay it Forward  this week because I get at least as much as I give with this one, PLUS I've checked a task off my holiday list. AND I score extra points with family members who like reality TV. AND I get something good to eat, You may not know (at least I didn't until two days ago) that Yigit Pura of San Francisco's Taste Catering just won Top Chef: Just Desserts.  I'm a fan of the Top Chef franchise, and make a point of patronizing establishments run by some of the cool, gorgeous women who have appeared on the show-- Two that I really love are in Hayes Valley:  Liz Falkner's Citizen Cake on Gough and Grove, and Jaime's Laurent's Absinthe, just around the corner on Hayes at Octavia. Absinthe also has a cafe annex, Arlequin, that has one of the best out...
