There is only so much shopping and stuffing one's face with ice cream that a girl can do during a weekend in Sausalito. There are plenty of shops selling all sorts of trinkets, jewelry, fashions and souvenirs, and you'll find an ice cream store on almost every other block. If you find an ice cream store without a waiting line, rush in and be first in line to place an order, even if you don't want any ice cream, because it will be a rare thing to find and experience in Sausalito -- an ice cream store without a line. I bought a date / fudge / caramel ice cream cone, and I wasn't even hungry. I just couldn't let the opportunity go by that there I was, in front of an ice cream store without a person inside except an employee. As I sat down to lick my cone, crowds of people suddenly appeared... 07/01/2013

Yes, I have to thank Myrl for this great trip to Sausalito over the weekend, and I did thank her in my blog about that trip. We go to San Francisco 3 or 4 times a year from Sacramento. Sometimes by train, the Capitol Corridor, and sometimes I drive there. My husband, a guy who grew up taking trains in Chicago, does not want to drive in San Francisco. If you can walk or take a train or hop a people mover, he would prefer that mode of transportation over hanging on the Jesus bar as I whip around corners in my little sports car. If you're looking for a place to visit that is about the same distance from Sacramento as San Francisco, I would suggest Sausalito as a weekend getaway.
