If you are looking for a home in a lake community, the Candlewood Shores development in Brookfield should be on your list. The community is very accessible, right off of Candlewood Lake road and is only 5 minutes from I-84 and Route 7. With almost all lake communities, there is a variety of home styles, sizes & price ranges. Many of the homes in Candlewood Shores sit on around a 7000 square foot lot. If living in a community that is serviced by Community Wells/Water Company, they are required by State Law to do peroidic testing.  The testing done is usually more extensive than is done on a private well when you are purchasing a home.  One of the newest Chemical Elements they are testing for is Uranium.  The EPA maximum allowable Uranium in water is 30ug/L.  If you own a home with a private well you most likely had the well tested when you first bought the home to make sure the water is potable.  Most owners don't ever give it a second thought after that.  Even when you do get a water test done it usually does not include a test for Uranium since it was not known to be a concern in the past.  This is somewhat the same story with Radon, and most of the buyers in the Northeast now have...

"Good Fences Make Good Neighbors," wrote American poet Robert Frost. Local Zoning Ordinances are different from town to town & your contractor may not always be aware or liable for a non conforming fence installation- so what to do?  If you are considering erecting a fence on your property do your homework. Conforming fences (6 feet & under) do not require a permit in the town of Brookfield. There are other regualtions that govern the installation though- like if you plan on installing a stockade fence where there will be a finished side & then a unfinished side (side that shows the posts) you will be required to face the finished side toward your neighbor or the street- basically you will not be looking at the finished side if you live in Brookfield. Less than common regualtions like t...
