Holiday Hayride, New Milford, CT 2016.Well, it has come and gone, and it was a rousing success yet again! Our annual Holiday Hayride and visit with Santa was well attended, despite the frigid temps outside. From what I could see, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely!I want to thank HVI (Housatonic Valley Insurance) and Bank Street Theater for joining us to provide this fun, free event to all. Your hard work, dedication and generosity is heartwarming. The horses and wagon from Utopia Percheron in Goshen, CT were a big hit too. I didn't get to ride in the wagon this year due to an injury, but next year for sure! It's a big year for New Milford, we are celebrating 50 years of our Christmas trees on the green! A tradition started by New Milford resident Walter Shutte, and one we have all enjoyed over the years. We owe a debt of gratitude to Walter, and of course the United Methodist Men of the New Milford United Methodist Church in New Milford. They volunteer their time and talents, they cut down the trees for us and place them on the green. I know they make my holiday season every year! I would like to take a moment to express my own deep gratitude for their generosity and contribution to our town. This year the tree lighting will be Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 5:30 pm. The New Milford CT real estate market report shows we are still slipping down on sales. This year we did hit a record high since before the market crashed, June 2016 reported 51 home sales, which caused the absorption rate (AB rate) to drop to a seller's advantage. However that was short lived as sales continue to drop and the AB rate continues to rise since then. And now we are facing a bit of an inventory shortage, only 2 other months reported lower, and not by much, in the past 12 months. Currently there are 203 single family homes for sale. Although that sounds like quite a bit, it is a noticeable drop and buyers are finding it harder to find what they want. If you haven't made plans to see The Wall That Heals in New Milford, CT this weekend, you really should go. It is such a moving experience to say the least. I certainly had to wipe more than a few tears as I walked past the names, as I read the letters, as I saw a few pictures of those who died, or who are POW or MIA. I can't really describe what I was feeling.I grew up in the Vietnam war era, flooded on a daily basis with fears of my brother or cousins being drafted, horrible reports on the nightly news, friends losing brothers and then the aftermath when they came home. I had a friend who was severely injured in Vietnam.
