Blooms A Poppin in Prospect CTSpring is starting to show signs of its presence here in Prospect, CT and a welcome sight it is.I was walking up the driveway and took a look at the front yard and the blossoms that are displayed.  It made me smile for its depth of color and it was mainly the daffodils.Even the hyacinths that were barely showing a week ago, were standing high.Closer to the driveway, where I had a tree removed, the daffodils are filling in nicely.In the back yard, the hedge of forsythias are almost at full bloom, and with it will come the pollen that signifies spring for those that suffer from allergies.Not quite three as yet are the mountain laurel with it's pinkish-red color.We are supposed to have warmer weather this week so these colors will certainly progress well.It is...

There's so Many Things to Look for With this Ice and Snow Before it Causes Real Damage We're having a brutal winter here in Connecticut. Every storm that comes up the coast has turned left and brought so much misery with it. The snow gets taken off the roads and the driveways get cleared as do the walks. The burden of all the weight has created severe problems for many with no immediate end in sight. The piles of snow on the roofs has started to create major ice issues that are starting to become bigger yet. Stores in our area cannot keep snow rakes in stock, and one dealer has already sold over 6,000 while still expecting more. When rakes aren't available a good shovel, or maybe even a push broom might work. Be careful when on the roofs not to fall and not to damage the roof itself. La...

Sunday Photo . . . Help, I'm Stuck in Here!!   It's no secret we've had a lot of snow, and it started very early in the year. We've had almost 60" of snow so far this month. Many decorations are buried under the depth of snow. As I was driving around yesterday, I came across this front yard scene. It's too bad the snow's so deep, as I would have liked to have seen some creative kids put a couple of smaller snowman around this one trying to pull it out.

Paying It Forward . . Nothing Stops the Mail From Being Delivered Last week, coming home for a break, I started to stop in front of the house like I usually do to collect the mail. The box was empty, which is a bit unusual at this time of month because it's typically bill delivery time. As I turned back to my car, I saw my mail person, Gina, walking towards me, which is unusual as we are on a motor route, waving at me with mail in her hand. As she got closer, she started to explain that the truck's transmission had stopped and she was just delivering our street, which is a cul-de-sac, and then she would have to wait for someone to come out to get her. We've Got a  Blow Going and It Isn't Stopping for A While! The snow started at just about 10 PM last night with just the faintest of flurries, but we had been warned that is was going to last for a while. At 7 AM this morning we were into a white out situation. A white out is just so much snow so quickly that that's all that can be seen. So at 11 AM I opened the front door to take a look at the yard, and it's all white. So let's take a look out the side door at the neighbor's house to see what it looks like that way. Yep, it's white there as well, and I also can't see my driveway. Paying It Forward . . . Santa Makes a Visit and Someone will Get Heat Every year we have a Christmas Luncheon for our family and closest friends. It is a great time, and everybody enjoys themselves. For this party, I also arrange to have a special visit from Santa Claus for all the kids. This is something that the kids wait for all year, and even the day of the party Santa cannot show up too soon for them. As everyone knows, Santa Claus needs to be very organized, and he has also become high tech, with his own email address, and I understand he's also working on a web site. If the kids had sent Santa their email list, he was kind enough to bring it with him and discuss it with them so that he knew exactly what they were asking for. Let me apologize upfront for what is sure to be a "log winded" (no pun intended) post.  I feel there is a lot of information that needs to be gone over.  One of the hottest topics in the local news (and the local Restaurants) is the proposed Wind Turbine project located at 178 New Haven Road, Prospect.  BNE Energy is hoping to construct two 1.6 megawatt wind turbines (windmills).  This site islocated directly across from Lee Road and George Street on Route 69 in Prospect.  These turbines would be 328 Feet tall, and the blade would reach approximately 492 feet into the air.  There has been a ton of debate about the potential dangers and also the potential negative impact on the Real Estate values.    First I want to give a little info on my background.  I am a lifelong Prospect resident....

The December Challenges . . . Keeping the Christmas Spirit and Working to Maintain The Business   At this time of year there are enterprising stands full of trees for those people looking to get a sense of real and freshness for Christmas. This stand is at the VFW post on the Cheshire Rd, also known as RT 68, here in Prospect CT. The stand is open on weekends from 9 to whenever, with trees starting at $35.00. All trees are fresh cut and brought down from Vermont.         31 Days of Christmas Challenge Day 7: Car was being worked on today, so almost all day spent cleaning up the web site and starting to add materials that I learned from RainCamp. Well I guess we all knew it was coming, and I guess since we are New Englander's we are lucky it took this long.  The first snow of the season hit our section of Central Connecticut.  Most of the Neighboring towns of Cheshire, Naugatuck and Waterbury had light accumulation like 1-3".  Prospect had twice that, after all the "Town on the Hill" always seems to get harder hit. On my way to the office I snapped some photos around town. Did the storm hit you?    A Severe storm hit Prospect this evening taking down many trees and utility polls. Several Prospect streets are closed.  Mayor Bob will notify you by the Code red phone system in about an hour. (6pm Eastern time) Morris is closed from Rozum to highland Drive Cook Road is closed between Nancy Mae and Roaring Brook Plank Road is closed From Route 68 to Boardman Drive Salem is closed from Spring to Pond View   The roads are just coned off.  Do not move or go around the cones because there are Live Primary Wires on the streets.  The roads will be closed for most of the evening into tomorrow.  CL&P has been notified but are overwhelmed.

The Town of Prospect CT had it's annual Santa Claus Parade in the town center with many of the town's children accompanied by their parents waiting for their first glimpse of the jolly chubby man in the red suit. The Christmas Season is upon us. Kids will start to be on their best behavior, because as the lyrics to the song offer: ♫  He sees you when you are sleeping, He knows when you're awake He knows if you've been bad or good. So be good for goodness sake!  ♫

  2010 Prospect tree lighting. Prospect Ct's annual town tree lighting is this Sunday, November 28th 2010.  There is a "parade of lights" starting at 5pm.  Shortly after the town tree's will be lit and there will be some new spotights, including one on the carved wooden bear in front of town hall.  This will be approximately 6 pm. Mayor Bob has said this year there will be less lights than normal to "save a little" on the electric bill. Hope to see you there to kick off the Holiday season.
