If you read my blog you know that I love statistics and today I ran across this quote that actually made me laugh: Statistics: The only science that enables different experts using the same figures to draw different conclusions. Evan Esar, Esar's Comic DictionaryAmerican Humorist (1899 - 1995) of course there is also the following: "Lies, damned lies, and statistics" is part of a phrase attributed to Benjamin Disraeli and popularised in the United States by Mark Twain: "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." The statement refers to the persuasive power of numbers, the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments, and the tendency of people to disparage statistics that do not support their positions. I just thought that the above information may be helpful when...

Are you still looking to buy a house in Washington DC? This is still a great time to buy. Interest rates are still near historic lows. Another reason why this is a great time to buy is that there is still a big inventory of houses to choose from. As of July 16,2008 there are 3,847 houses for sale in Washington DC. More than 250 homes for sale are priced in the price range $250,000-$299,999,over 280 homes for sale are priced $300,000-$399,999,more than 460 homes for sale are priced $400,000-$499,000,more than 680 homes for sale are priced over $500,000It is still a buyers market. Because of the large inventory, you're in a better position to negotiate a price discount with the seller than you will be when the real estate market begins to strengthen. When I first heard about this story,I couldn't believe it. But this is absolutely true. So I thought I share this story with everyone else here. An 70 year old woman Omkari Panwar in India became the world's oldest mom after giving birth to twins. The frail pensioner has two daughters and five grandchildrens. Her husband Charan Singh Panwar 77 mortgaged his land, sold his buffalos, spent his life savings and took out an loan for this treatment. But why would a 70 year old woman and a 77 man want another child? The man said that he wanted a son. They prayed to God and God granted them their wish. The man said that he can die a happy man and proud father. The twins were born premature and weighing two pounds each are said to be healthly and expected to survive. Omkari Panwar does not have a...

April pending home sales rose as prices tumble. According to a real estate trade group, home sales in April rose to its highest level in six months as foreclosures properties flooded the market and drove prices sharply lower. This is much needed good news in the real estate industry. Christopher Low,chief economist at FTN Financial in New York said the pickup in pending home sales could be a sign that housing market could soon be stabilizing. He also said that there is still inventory overhang that will take 18 months to work through. But he feels that the end game of the housing burst is near. This good news should hopefully bring out more home buyers who have been hesitant to make that decision of buying a house.  While there are a lot of inventories to choose from and interest rates s...

Today-April 2,2008 marks the first annual World Autism Awareness Day. I don't know much about Autism or know anyone who is affected by it. So I decided that the least that I can do is educate myself on this topic. Autism is a complex brain disorder that affects a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationship. It is often accompanied by extreme behavorial challenges. The diagnosis of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade and the centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure still remains to be unknown. Some facts about autism from http://www.autismspeak.com/ include: Autism affects as many as 1 in 150 ch...

Right Now 72° Mostly cloudy 8 mphWinds WNW Feels Like: 70°F Washington DC  VA Nice weather today. So I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and do some door knocking in my neighborhood. Most of them people were not home so I just left a door hanger along with my business cards attached to it. I met one man who was doing some work in front of his house. When I gave him my business card, first thing he asked me smiling was "How much do you think I get for my house?" I told him I am not sure. ( I didn't want to lie by making up a number ). But I told him I would be more than happy to do a CMA on his house. He said Okay. When he is ready,he will give me a call. Then a minute later, the mail lady putting the letters in the people's mailbox drove by. Before she drove off,I introduced...

Spring is almost here ( I feel like jumping for joy-But I won't yet ) Which means that we are slowly saying good bye to cold weather while we transition slowly to start getting warm weather. But this also means that the National Cherry Blossom Festival is coming up. Yes! The Cherry Blossom Festival from March 29th-April 13th 2008. Blooming of the cherry trees around the Jefferson Memorial attracts many tourists as well as city residents and vistors to Washington DC.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The famous trees a gift from Japan in 1912 signal the coming of spring with an explosion of...

I know a lot of us real estate professionals who don't have a team work at least 40 hours or week. But we know that you need your rest. One thing I have learned in life is that you are your best investment. Without your good  heatlth, you can't do such things as work and provide for your loved ones. I know that in order to achieve success, you need to work hard, but it shouldn't risk you losing your good health. Its always good to work but too much work is not good for you. I mean,if we don't work,we can't feed our family. So if you work a lot, especially over 40 hours a week and/or six days a week.please rest at least one day out of the week. We are supposed to rest on sundays and spend time with family and friends as well as using that day to plan for the upcoming week. Resting as we all ...

Every day, thousands of tourists visit the White House at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington. At least, they stand out front and take photos, usually of a friend or family member standing at the fence. Many people never go 100 yards up the street to look at the tired old building that shares the grounds with the White House. This is the Executive Office Building which houses almost all of the President's staff and has served this function for many years. This building took almost 17 years to construct, it was started in 1871 and finally finished in 1888. The site had been the location of the presidential stables until then and this became the home of the Departments of State, War and Navy until the 1950's. It was almost demolished at that time.During the Eisenhower administration the ...
