One of the yearlong residents has been feeding these ducks for so long that they have their own road warning. The long drive there from nearby Smyrna is lined with flat farmland. The closer you get to Woodland, the road becomes more like a causeway with tidal waters on either side. With the feeling of a small town and the conveniences of modern life, Smyrna residents enjoy many community events and particupate in meetings of the town council at the Town Hall. The 1869 Opera House building, which also hosts the town library, was restored and re-opened in 2003 and now hosts concerts, performances, and the annual Smyrna-Clayton Heritage Assn. Auction.

In the 19th Century, Smyrna (originally Duck Creek Crossroads) merchants shipped grain to mills on the Brandywine Creek in Wilmington, and from there, grain was shipped to ports on the east coast and Europe.  Smyrna's grid street plan was laid out in 1817 . In 1855, a rail line 2 miles west in Clayton provided more growth in town. This is when the most of the town historic district's vibrant Italianate and Victorian Gothic homes were built.

Hello everyone!I wanted to let you know how great 4th of July is in our little town! It is the longest running 4th of July celebration in the state. The festivities start with Smyrna HarringtonERA putting miniature American flags up and down every main street in Smyrna. At 10:00 a.m., we have the most awesome parade. Smyrna and Clayton take turns hosting the parade since the 2 towns together are smaller than most small towns. We have police cars, fire trucks, pageant winners, girl and boy scouts and our local sports teams strutting their stuff. The parade ends at the Municipal Park on North Main Street. Boy is the park set up for fun! There are a ton of vendors giving stuff away. Plenty of equipment for the kids to play on, so the adults can reconnect with their neighbors. We have most ...

Smyrna, Delaware is a beautiful, historic town just South of Middletown. We have a strong sense of history and enjoy our old buildings and Mayberry feel. The "old folks" in town can tell you lots of stories about how it used to be. Look at our little town at: http://www.smyrnadelaware.comThere is always people walking around our quaint downtown. Give a wave, they'll wave back. The fire whistle still goes off at noon everyday, reminding you to take a break. You could always stop at the fire house and find out what's going on in town. We have parades for everything. If you have never been to a small town parade, you are missing out. Lots of happy kids and old folks in classic cars. The girl scouts and sports teams throw candy out to the little ones. Our 4th of July celebration starts firs...
