Back to the same old question, Where is the market going?  Should I buy now or wait?  Ask 20 people…you’ll get 20 different answers. We know that millions of dollars have been lost in the economy in all sectors.  Interest rates change almost everyday.  These rate fluctuations can affect how much you can borrow and how much your monthly mortgage payments on a home will be.  Many economic and political factors affect rates, and sometimes the experts don’t know why rates perform as they do.  Sometimes rates can rise even when the Federal Reserve cuts short term bank rates.  The Fed cut the Fed funds rates by ¾ of a percentage point in March 2008. This cut the fed funds rate to 2.25% - the lowest since 2004.  This is the 6th rate cut since September 2007.   Normally, banks in turn would imm...

I recently read an online article that today,  there is a 500% more chance that a home will be seen on the internet versus print advertising. Over 80% of home buyers are beginning their search on the internet. They are searching for 2 to 3 weeks before  contacting an agent.  88% are interested in a property they see online. And 78% of Real Estate agents are finding their buyers online.  So, happy blogging!

Today, some people are in favor of renting, rather than buying. The Brevard County Florida housing bubble is creating new risks for some tenants.  In addition to some other areas of the country. Many houses and condos are available for lease.  Owners are forced to rent them out.  They haven’t been able to sell them for the peak prices they paid in 2005.      Landlords are renting at a deficit. They are paying more in monthly mortgage payments, taxes, insurance & association fees than they are receiving in rent.  Their sentiment…some money is better than no money. But, how long can they continue to pay out?  Often times, for a very short period of time.   Then, tenants are losing their homes.  They are paying their rent.  But, landlords are unable to keep up with the mortgage payme...

As March fades into April, the official beginning of hurricane season is just around the corner.  Now is the time to begin planning our escape!  Well if not our escape, at least the means to make life a bit easier when the lights go out for extended periods of time, without having to run a polluting, noisy generator.I purchased a portable array of three solar panels, which can be used to charge a 12v car or marine battery.  The panels come with a "plug in box" with which you can plug in small appliances from 6v to 12v, a cell phone plug in, and a cigarette lighter plug in for 12v appliances.  In addition we purchased a 12v coffee maker, and a 12v stove, used by boaters and RV owners.    Because marine batteries are "deep cell" batteries, they draw less electricity and will last longer w...

Thanks to some of my BFF's on AR, who gave me some very good ideas as to what to give away, and raffle off when I participate in my local Chamber's Business Fair in May, I was able to decide what I would do.  I like to consider myself socially conscious and an active environmentalist, so my choices run along those lines.  My "gift" basket will consist of a basket purchased online at One World Projects, a website that sells all kinds of items made by people in disadvantaged countries.  All the items are "fair trade" items, hand made by locals from local resources.  The basket I chose is made in Rawanda, by women who are trying to improve their living conditions by producing saleable eco-friendly products.  For the contents, I've decided to put in a mix of eco-friendly cleaning products, ...

As a seller, how badly do you want to sell your home?  Are you hanging on hoping to fund your retirement?  Or waiting for the "right" buyer with the "correct" amount of money to come along?  Can you afford to sit and wait for a sale?Apparently that seems to be the current thinking amongst sellers.  We home stagers are still seeing many listings priced higher than they should be to sell.  Consider this very real scenario:Real estate agent number 1 prices the home higher than it should be priced.  Doesn't recommend any improvements to the property to help the sale, doesn't recommend home staging.  Owner becomes frustrated and at the end of the listing agreement changes real estate agents.Real estate agent number 2, keeps the house priced at the same dollar amount, doesn't recommend anythi...

Deborah Pearce just posted a very informative blog about choosing artwork.  As an artist, she has the inside "scoop" on art for art sake.  However, when looking for artwork that appeals to the masses, we have only to look as far as our beloved Cheeta the chimp from the old Tarzan movies.  Yes, Cheeta is an artist in his own right, painting comissioned "ape-stract" artwork.  Cheeta took up painting when he retired from entertainment and now spends his time as an ambassador for apes and monkeys kept in captivity.  Cheeta has lived to the ripe old age of 75 years, having surpassed the average chimp lifespan by 25 years.  Click the link below to read about Cheeta and his accomplishments, and if you are looking for one of a kind artwork, signed by Cheeta, you can purchase it online at the we...

POOL MAINTENANCE GUIDELINES  1) Add 2.5 gallons liquid chlorine each week, (amount may fluctuate in cooler weather), from a pool supply company (chlorine strengths vary) – approximately $3.75 per container (2.5 gal.). It may splash as you dump it in, so be careful. Add it the same day each week by walking around the pool pouring as you go.2) Use solid chlorine tablets sparingly - maybe 2 to 4 a month in the float bottle. Add once a week and don't refill until it's gone. 3) Once a month take a sample of water by inserting the test bottle open side down to elbow depth in the deep end, then inverting it so the water rushes in. Take the sample to Pools Supply Company for testing and instructions on what, if anything, the water needs.4) Once a week, or as needed, empty or back wash, as the c...

The downturn in the housing market has prompted not only home sellers and real estate agents to get creative with their marketing, but also home stagers.  We are now offering a wide variety of services, not thought of before when home staging became a viable tool for selling a home.  In addition to the consultation process, which points sellers in the direction of DIY staging, the hands-on staging services, and the staging and furnishing of vacant properties, home stagers have branched out and now offer services such as:~  "concierge service" whereby vacant properties are regularly tended to, making sure curb appeal is maintained  and the interior is kept pristine~ shopping for inventory items the home seller may need to spruce up their occupied dwelling~ doing "walk throughs" and provi...

I think we all agree, nothing can beat a pie, fresh and hot from the oven.  The aroma, the look, the mouthwatering appeal!  A fresh hot pie invites you into the home, with the promise of the "comfort" of food and congenial company.  Pie has been a staple in American homes for over a hundred years, and "apple" pie is an American signature.  So, if we regard the power of pie so highly in our daily lives, why shouldn't we also incorporate that look, feel, and promise into our stagings? This particular pie is blueberry, with a mouth watering crust, sprinkled with sugar.  Mmmmm!   Or is it?  Actually this pie is a candle!  Oh it looks like a pie, and smells like a pie, but the wicks sticking out the top (which I removed) indicate "candle."  Can't you just imagine this pie cooling on the coun...
