The U.S. Open Pickleball Championships are taking place this week in Naples, Florida. Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports in the country with over 2.5 million players playing this “sweet sport with a sour name”. Here are 5 things to know about Pickleball: 1)      Paddles – the game is played with solid paddles made of wood or composite material. 2)      Ball – the ball is very similar to a whiffle ball. 3)      Courts – the court resembles the size of a badminton court 20x44 ft and striped like a tennis court. The net is approximately 3 ft high. 4)      Serve – the serving team must use an underhand stroke and connect with the ball below the waist (no power slams on the serve in this sport). Isn't it cute!?!The Ochopee Post Office is the smallest post office in the United States.  I stopped and snapped a few pictures of it on my way to Clyde Butchers Gallery in Big Cypress.  This closet-sized, 7x8-foot building used to be an irrigation pipe shed for a tomato farm.  It was turned into a postal service building after a fire destroyed the Ochopee General Store.  The General Store housed the original post office - in 1953.  The building has an airconditioner, light and a computer.  If nature calls, there's the Skunk Ape Research Headquarters is a mile east.  Yes, I asked about the bathroom and no I didn't see the Skunk Ape.  The town of Ochopee sits on the edge of the Everglades.  The population of Ochopee is 11.  Ochopee is 60 Miles East of Bonita Springs Florida.        09/02/2007

Recently, I had an amazing opportunity to meet Clyde Butcher.  If you don't know who Clyde Butcher is, know this:  He is one of the great American Iconic Photographers of Modern and All Time.  Period.  Bar none. Put it in your pipe and smoke it.  (his weapon is large format black and white nature photography)He exemplifies "Wherever you go, there you are".  He has it, he found it, he is it.  He is where he is; almost like you and me are searching for.  His mission was only accomplished by great loss.  His beloved son was lost in an accident caused by a drunk driver.  Solice was found in the Florida Everglades, of which he became a master at capturing images for the world to see.  The images are breath taking, one of a kind.  Clyde Butcher knows how to set up his hundreds of pounds of eq... 09/02/2007

 Why?  I just felt like it.  Since I was up to my waist in swamp and gator and I took it, I thought I'd post it.  No points, naturally I'm over my limit, so keep the whining to a minimum and at least rate the post like the good little 'Rainer that you are.   This is smaller cypress in Big Cypress.  I highly recommend you walk in the Everglades once in your life, it's like not seeing the Grand Canyon or not ever seeing the Ocean.  You're missing it and you don't know it.  Maggie Dokic, you're close enough to do this with your kids this weekend.  09/01/2007
