All is well here in my off-grid part of Haiku MauiHawaii just experienced some severe weather in the way of a hurricane that came close to the Big Island - Tropical Storm Lala happened just over a week ago.  Parts of that island were hit with incredible wind and rain, causing a lot of damage.  I don't think it's been this bad in a very long time.  Maui also saw plenty of high winds, causing hundreds of trees to blow down, which then left a lot of power outages in the wake.We were prepared, as well as we could be.  We are pretty much always prepared due to the way our neighborhood is.  North Honokala, Honopou, Ho'olawa, Ulalena Loop, Loomis Rd.  It's an off-grid part of the island, so we don't have any county supplied water services, or electrical grid connection.  We do have the luxury ... 08/28/2026

Haiku Maui land sells - what's next? I'm happy to announce my beautiful vacant land listing at 320 Hanauana Rd sold to a nice Haiku couple who want to move to the country and build a home, or two.  They paid $867,765 for 2.2 acres with power and fiber optics, and a nice ocean view.This was a good match of buyers and seller, since they're going to be neighbors.  It all came together quickly once everyone met and it was obvious they were on the same page.  The seller graciously offered seller financing and it clicked.I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress, since this is close to my neighborhood.  We have another lot in this same area, and right now it's getting some upgrading before coming back on the market... so stay tuned for that announcement.See what other lots are for sal... 01/19/2023

Above are the flowers which come out at night or early morning.Below are the ripe pink fruits.  We planted a bunch of vines 3 years ago and this year we harvested over 20 fruits, and still a few more to come.  These vines are super easy to grow in Haiku Maui and we're planting more!I slice them in half and then cut the halves into slices with the skin on so they're easy to pick up.  They you just bite the centers and eat the fruit, while discarding the pink peel.  They have a texture sort of like a kiwi fruit - with the tiny black seeds that you eat, but they're sweet and not tart like a kiwi - just soft and sweet with a little crunch of seeds... very refreshing.Thanks for reading my Maui blog...Buying or selling real estate on Maui?  That's what I do.  Let me help YOU.Georgie Hunter R(... 09/16/2022

My jade vine is flowering for the first time!We planted this tropical jade vine 2 years ago, just as the pandemic was becoming the big news of the day.  It was a skinny little wisp of a vine in a flower pot, wrapped around a stick of bamboo - so frail and delicate that I wondered if it would survive.  Of course, in Haiku Maui it's hard NOT to grow anything, so I was confident it would be okay.We found a home in the ground where it could climb up some mock orange bushes, and waited, and watered, and waited some more.  The tendril climbed into the tree and kept going up and up - grew a few leaves and that was it.  Finally, earlier this month I looked for some flowers, and was pleasantly surprised to find 3 long dangling "flower" strands that I hadn't noticed before.  They're about 15" lon... 03/14/2022
