Millis Public Library has a 3D PrinterMy Library Had Smelly Books My library growing up in West Roxbury did not have very much. It was an old building built in the post war era. It had an expansive reading room and from what I remember a small collection of encyclopedias. It definitely had the smell of very old books.   That was about all I remember.   In the olden days,  I remember walking up Centre Street with my family to go to the library past the Friendly's Ice Cream (now a bank) and the old Capitol Market which later became NHD and subsequently a Walgreens (I think).  Oh the Capitol Market, how I loved thee. Millis Spring 2012 MCAS Results Are In! Millis has been known to place well in the State in MCAS results.  This year's data upholds that status.  The results are in and Millis studets continue to outscore the state average in ELA (English Language Arts), Math and Science.  Results show that 75% of the Millis students that took the MCAS scored in the Advanced and Proficient categories.  This stat is impressive especially when compared to 69% across the state in ELA. Here in northern New England, today will be a long Monday!  It's amazing how the outcome of a football game can change one's mood so drastically.  I've been thinking about this day for a week now.  Today, I have appointments with sellers and buyers and I have been pondering how the outcome of the Superbowl would affect their mood and ultimately our appointment.  There are some serious Patriots fans up here and it’s not pretty in Boston after a loss such as we saw last night! My approach will be to not mention the dreadful outcome and hope the client either a) isn't a football fan (slim chance of that being the case!), or b) is a Giants Fan, in which case I'd rather not know for fear that it would change MY mood. You know the feeling you have in the pit of your stomach when you see one of your previous listings, that didn't sell, come back on market at a much reduced price?  It doesn't happen often, but I'm really perplexed when it does because my first thought is....Gee, I could have sold it for that price!  Honestly, I can understand the Seller's desire to pick a fresh agent to sell since they weren't successful before.  But to reduce by 20 or 30 thousand dollars and re-list with another random agent is hard for me to understand.  Especially since we had the conversation about the need to reduce in order to get more activity, etc.  I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about.  So the Seller decides they can't or won't reduce and the listing goes off the market.  Then, the house pops back ... 02/03/2012

Millis Middle School Wins Contest and receives $100,000 grant from Target Corporation. Here is a great testimony to the Small Town/Big Family motto that the town of Millis is proud to boast! Yesterday Target Corporation announced that Millis Middle School was one of 50 recipients from across the country to receive a$100,000 grant.  From Nov. 25, 2011, through Jan. 4, 2012, viewers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show were invited to submit - via email - the name of a school, along with a compelling story explaining why they felt their designated school should receive a grant from Target.  Based on the submission from Amy, a clerk in the Middle School, we were the sole school in Massachusetts chosen to receive this amazing grant. Millis had a festive groundbreaking ceremony in December for their new library which will be on the corner of Exchange St and Main St. It's been a long time coming, like many other projects in Metrowest. But the good news is that it should be done in just 12 short months. Expected completion date is January 2013. That used to sound so far off but now that we're in 2012, we know it's just around the corner. This is a major step for the town of Millis. Just to give you a feel for the scope of this work, The new library is a $7.7 million project, with $2.7 million being provided by the state. It will have 17,800 square feet as opposed to the less than 6,000 sq ft in the old facility. Congrats to the residents of Millis for getting this done for the town!
