Barbecue Chicken Pizza: A Favorite Among 7th Graders We had a house full of 7th grade boys today.  In between running around, video games, and foosball, we ordered pizza from Village Pizza in Sturbridge, MA.  With 10 boys, I figured one party pizza (30 slices) and one large pizza (12) slices would be plenty. The party pizza had the old stand-by toppings:  1/2 cheese and 1/2 pepperoni.  The large pizza was something relatively new:  barbecue chicken.  Let me tell you, that barbecue chicken pizza disappeared.  We had to limit each kid to one slice, with a couple of the boys lucky enough to have two pieces.  Who knew?  I guess barbecue chicken pizza is the new favorite.  And from what the boys tell me, the new runner-up is....bacon pizza!  (In case your pizza isn't greasy enough.)  You can...

Free Software for Taking Inventory of Your Home Whether you are buying, selling, or renting your home, it is always a good idea to keep stock of your belongings.  In the event of a theft, accident, or damage, you will need to supply your insurance company with a list of your valuable items in order to make a claim. With that in mind, you may be happy to hear about a free software program that helps you easily inventory your belongings.  It is called What You Own, and you can download it at www.whatyouown.org I learned about this software from the National Association of REALTORs magazine, September 2010 edition. The What You Own software installation is quite easy, and it takes about 3 minutes.  Once installed, you simply go in and add your rooms.  Then, for each room, you can add your ...

A letter came in the mail today from RE/MAX headquarters, congratulating me on this anniversary.  The letter was signed by RE/MAX CEO Margaret Kelly, and it was accompanied by a certificate of recognition from Dave Liniger and Gail Liniger, Co-Founders of RE/MAX.  What an honor! When I entered the real estate field five years ago, I immediately joined with RE/MAX.  RE/MAX offered a program of training designed to get a new agent up and running as quickly and independently as possible.  The market has changed quite a bit since I first started in 2...

Caterers in the Sturbridge Area   It is sure a lot of fun to throw a party, but doing it all yourself can sometimes be overwhelming.  You plan a menu, clean your house, arrange furniture, send out invitations, and then do the cooking.  Something has to give, you may think as you are elbows-deep in potato peels. Well, here is some help for those of you who live in Central Massachusetts.  I asked my fellow RE/MAX colleagues for their recommendations of caterers in the area, and they graciously shared their favorites with me.  Below is a list of caterers.  They are all located in Sturbridge, unless otherwise noted. School is in Session!   All around town today there was a consistent level of hustle bustle.  The stores were filled with moms and kids loading their carts with lunch goodies and school supplies.  Notebooks, pencils, rulers, ice packs, juice boxes, water bottles, peanut butter, bread, cold cuts - all the essentials for the return to school. Haircuts, new shoes, The Outfit - what to wear for the important first day.  The excited energy of anticipation and anxiety could be felt in the aisles.  So many questions to be answered, new teachers, new friends, new challenges.  Is there any day more stressful?  And for whom, the parents or the students?  No matter, it can't be stopped.  The day has arrived.  School is in session!

365 things to do in Worcester County - buy a short sale home in Sturbridge - Yes, it does happen that a short sale purchase have a happy ending.  Just ask my client, Christopher Luth who was relocating from out of state.    Last early Spring, Christ asked me to find a home for him and his fiancee.  He and I discussed the market, the fact that there were many short sale and foreclosed properties out there and we spent some time looking at all possibilities.  We found a property that was in an ideal location for his commute.  It was in Sturbridge and unfortunately, it was a short sale. I explained that the process is tedious to say the least, but assured him that I have had experience in working with distressed properties (in fact I have two designations, LMC and CDPE that assure my clien...

Trash Disposal in Sturbridge, MA   Dumpsters for Recycling at the Sturbridge Recycling Center, Breakneck Road   Sturbridge, MA:  The Town of Sturbridge has no municipal trash pick-up.  If you are moving to town you will have to hire a private contractor to pick up your trash.  Most of the private refuse companies also have a contract for recycling, so you can put your recyclables out with your regular trash.  As an alternative, you can obtain a permit for the Sturbridge Recycling Center on Breakneck Road and take your household waste and recycling there.  The first permit for each household is free; however, if you need additional permits, there is a cost of $20.  Permits are obtained via application. If you wish to have a private waste company pick up your trash at your curb, try one o...

On the Deck at 420 Main - Sturbridge, MA   My husband and I have started to enjoy the deck at 420 Main in Sturbridge, MA.  We'll stop in for a drink and appetizers and end up staying for much longer than planned.  Recently, we enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip and salads.  My husband had a Cesar salad with grilled shrimp, and I had a fennel and strawberry salad - very fresh and delicious. 420 Main has an extensive list of martinis and beers on tap.  Lately they have been promoting a beer that benefits Worcester Polytechnic Institute.  On Wednesday, August 11, 420 Main will hold a Grand Re-Opening with a wine pairing party.  For $35, participants can sample seven wines with appetizers and desserts.  Sounds like a great way to enjoy a Wednesday evening. 420 Main - Sturbridge, MA - at ...

365 Things to do in Worcester county - Antiquing in Sturbridge -yes, I can not think of more ubiquitous things to do than to rummage through miriad of booths for that special treasure.  And Sturbridge is the Mecca for such a fun and potentially lucrative activity.  Now there are other places in Worcester County, don't get me wrong.  There are the Brookefield towns, East Brookfield, West Brookfield and Brookfield itself that are filled with shops that offer a rummage paradise.  I stopped at the Fairgroounds Antique Center, located at 362 Main St., in Strubridge MA and talked to the proprietor and the Dealer who welcomed a visit in the middle of the day from a patron with like interest.  Bill, who is the husband of the owner was eager to explain that the store is a co-op of many dealers ...
