Happy Thanksgiving in Catonsville - 10th Annual Turkey Trot 5K and 1 mile Fun Run. A toasty 26f degrees at 8am on Thanksgiving morning in 21228 and Catonsville High School was a hive of activity. The 10th Annual Fundraiser Turkey Trot was the big attraction. All age groups and fitness levels arrived to enjoy the delightful crisp clear day. ALL THE MONEY raised will benefit the Catonsville High School Cross County team. Hillcrest Elementary School was well represented by "Healthy Hillcrest Hedgies"     A section of Rolling Road was closed for the start.  The course was mostly through the grounds of CHS and not an easy flat road race. This was the leader and ultimately the winner in just over 17 minutes. My Little guy got a ribbon for his participation in the 1 mile Fun Run. Now off to ge...

Hillcrest Elementary School in Catonsville wins a local history competition! Congratulations to Hillcrest Elementary in Catonsville for winning the elementary division of the Black Saga contest here in Baltimore County! The kids will go to the Maryland State competition on March 16th at Towson University.   Elementary kids in 4th and 5th grade and middle schoolers in grades 6-8th can participate.  The kids are responsible for knowing as many as 800 questions about African American History so the studying and practicing is no small accomplishment!  It is the 16th year of this competition here in Maryland and it has become a showcase of the brightest kids in the state.   The kids work in teams and compete within their school.  The best 2 teams from each school compete with other element...

Hillcrest Elementary School in Catonsville has partnered with the local Pediatric Dentist, Smiles 4 Children in Catonsville in a "Halloween Candy Buy Back". Encouraging the students to DONATE the sweet treats that they collected last night will be rewarded with a Pizza Party for the grade that donates the most candy. All the candy is then shipped to our brave service Men and Women serving in Iraq & Afghanistan. Apparently the Kindergarten grade never wins. Maybe they don't collect as much or they are unwilling to part with their loot?  My competitive (wonder where he gets that from?) 5 year old wants to change that at the school. He wants his grade to win.His brother is an Army cadet and he has also watched over the years the care packages that we have sent to his Uncle Nick who has comp...
