Gaithersburg Memorial Day Observance  Loyalty and patriotism will be on full display as the City joins the nation in honoring all who have given their lives in military service at its Memorial Day Observance on Tuesday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at Christman Park. The public is invited to join the Mayor and City Council, Junior Mayor, City staff and honored guests in a tribute to those of all generations who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Joining the observance is guest speaker retired Army Lieutenant Colonel Larry D. Gaithersburg Memorial Day Closures and RecyclingIn observance of Memorial Day, City offices and most facilities are closed on Monday, May 29, with the exception of the following:  Miniature Golf Course will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Community Museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. as part of the 150th Anniversary of the Metropolitan Branch of the B & O Railroad celebration. Water Park will be open from noon to 6 p.m. for City of Gaithersburg residents and Aquatics Members ONLY. Sign up for a membership here. Tick Protection TipsThe Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is encouraging  residents to take simple precautions to prevent illness caused by infected ticks, as warmer weather means increased risk of tickborne disease transmission. Governor Wes Moore's recently proclaimed May as “Tickborne Disease Awareness Month” in Maryland.“We want all residents to get out and enjoy all of the natural beauty that Montgomery County has to offer,” said County Health Officer Kisha Davis. “With the weather heating up, we also want to remind residents to be mindful of the dangers of tick exposure and provide tools to recognize the symptoms of tick-transmitted diseases.”Lyme disease is the most reported tickborne disease in Maryland. One in four people struggle to purchase period products due to lack of income and one in five report missing work, school or similar events due to lack of access to period supplies.
