First Death in Maryland from Rare Tickborne IllnessThe first death in Maryland from the Powassan virus — spread by a tick bite — has been confirmed by state health officials. Powassan is very rare, and this is the first-ever case recorded in Maryland. The individual contracted the virus in Canada and returned to Maryland afterward. There are no vaccines to prevent or medicines to treat Powassan virus disease. Kentlands Tennis & Pickleball Courts Update  As many of you have followed, back in early 2021, the KCA resurfaced five courts (including basketball). In the winter of 2021/2022, the fencing off every court except court #2 was replaced. Court #2 was transitioned into three pickleball courts and made courts #1, #3, and #4 solely for tennis. Eventually, the demand for pickleball became so great that court #1 was striped and converted into a combo court, allowing two additional pickleball courts.   By the end of that first season, many of the players reported dead and cracking spots on the three pickleball courts.
