Share Your Feedback on Community Policing The Montgomery County Department of Police invites residents to participate in its 2026 Community Trust Survey, an annual survey designed to better understand police-community relations and public trust in law enforcement. The survey takes about one to two minutes to complete and is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese. The survey is open through Thursday, Oct. 15. Resident feedback will be included in Montgomery County Police’s annual Police Statistical Data Report, which is scheduled to be published in early 2027. Eric's ID Law Marks First Year in Effect in MarylandOne year after Eric's ID Law took effect, more than 30,000 Marylanders have added the law's butterfly designation to their Maryland driver's license or identification card. A few minutes of planning can make all the difference in an emergency. Smoke Alarms Expire Like any electronic device, smoke alarms wear out over time and need to be replaced. The life expectancy of smoke alarms is 10 years. Smoke alarms work by sensing smoke particles and after 10 years, the smoke sensors lose their sensitivity. Cardinal Title Group just filed a lawsuit against Montgomery County, Maryland. Now, before you raise an eyebrow ;  they didn't do it for themselves. They did it for your buyers. Here's the story. Montgomery County gives qualifying homebuyers an exemption from recordation tax on the first $100,000 of the purchase price ...as long as they intend to live in the home at least 7 of the first 12 months. At today's tax rates, that exemption saves the parties $890. Recently, the County's Department of Finance started denying that exemption to buyers who enter into short-term rent-back agreements with their sellers. You know rent-backs...the seller stays...
