For the last ten years, my husband Jay and I have been camping along the shore in Bar Harbor Maine at the Bar Harbor KOA.  People often ask us why we keep going back, the same spot the same time frame every year and my only answer is ...we love it here! All successful time management begins with planning. Use a weekly calendar and make a daily "To Do" list. Write down all of the things you want to accomplish today, including personal activities such as phone calls and shopping.  Use it to set daily priorities--what must be done today? What can wait? The hurry scurry to get to an annual Maine real estate REALTORS convention meeting. Every year the same two step dosey doe getting the office set up for a few days at meetings. Cauterizing loose ends, remember to do this, this and this. Luckily I have had an assistant for nineteen years that is like Radar on the MASH television series. Robin just knows. Remind Andy to do this, don't forget to do that. And then that. With androids, laps tops it is a seamless transition. Sure, tethered by wireless devices while in a continuing education class. The crisp Maine fall air, the colors of foliage in the peak as REALTORS from around the state called "Vacationland" trek to Bar Harbor ME, Hancock County. This year's 2010 Maine State REALTOR's Convention will be educational, informative, fun too. The day long seminar with meetings for continuing education real estate licensing requirements all in a three day swoop are worth the price of admission alone. There's a little known part of Acadia National Park at the tip of Schoodic Peninsula.  With dramatic views and loop road of its own, around every corner is another piece of pristine coastline.  This is what National Parks are there for.  My wife and I often go there on an extremely hot day because the ocean breezes are like sticking your head in the refrigerator.  Come on now, I know we've all done that on a hot day.  Anyway, the one way two lane road is a pleasurable ride with ample opportunities to stopand take pictures or explore.  At the southern most extreme is a place where, when the wind and tide is right, the crashing surf must be approached with caution.  It's a sight worthwhile.     Thomas Dean Associate Broker Town & Country, Realtors 140 High Street Ellsworth, ME  04605 207-... 04/26/2010

In the town of Surry, on the Blue Hill Peninsula, you can find a peaceful strip of land with views of Mount Desert Island across the Union River Bay to the east and East Blue Hill across Morgan Bay to the west.  Parking at Carrying Place Beach is a great place to start.  This dead end road affords dramatic  views right to the end.  A ride out there and back is only 10 miles, fairly level and traffic free.  By the way, real estate on this out of the way is highly sought after and sells at a premium.  Prices have not suffered in the current market. This is a hectic time in the market with the incentives being offered for first time homebuyers - and by hectic I mean there is a lot of confusion involved (more than the typical first time buyer transaction).  I have found it incredibly important right now that my first time buyer clients work with a mortgage broker or banker that can walk them through the different scenarios that work best for them.  I have dealt w/ some bankers right now who are not up to speed w/ the new incentives, and I'm sorry, in this market it is MOST important to be on the ball.   Experience, sensitivity and intelligence are the most important characteristics I tell my buyer clients while looking for bankers and mortgage brokers.   07/21/2009

My wife and I went to a late July 4th gathering on Last Wednesday the 8th in a small community comprised of 19th century vacation cottages on the north end of Little Deer Isle offthe coast of Maine.  For me the best feature was the old lighthouse in the view, situated on Pumpkin Island.  The whole community was once only accessible by steamship and rail.  Now you can drive across the Deer Isle Bridge that crosses the Eggemoggin Reach.     07/10/2009

When I moved to Maine 35 years ago, it was mostly as a result of the books written by Helen and Scott Nearing.  Since moving to the Mid Coast region a few years ago, I made the pilgrimage to the homestead that started it all in Brooksville, Maine.  Now maintained by young and energetic stewards, this place is a shrine to the folks who inspired the "Back to the Land" movement of the '70s. Ever have one of those days where no matter what you do it comes out wrong? No matter what you do you can't get warm?I know we all have those days and I know that tomorrow will be better. It always is...but in the meantime I do what I usually do... to find comfort.I look through my picture folder and relive those memories. And tonight I found a little video clip that I shot during our vacation in Bar Harbor Maine last August. We vacation in Bar Harbor every August and stay at the same campground on the same camp site at the waters edge.Our site sits on Western Bay and we are protected by a dotting of islands that buffer us from the open ocean.
