Keweenaw County, Forests, Wildlife, and Mountains of Upper Michigan.People don't generally think of the Midwest as a place with mountains, but if you have ever tried to inventory the mountains of Upper Michigan you would testify that we have a few.Scenery in every direction is a good way to describe Keweenaw County, I highly recommend a visit here to see the endless views, beautiful waterfalls, immense forests and wild creatures. Upper Michigan is one of my favorite places with cool summers, snow filled winters and some of the best Sugar Maple in the world. With over 9 million acres of forestland, and not that many people, this place is a real treasure. This place may be a little tough on the deer with deep snows and less food than we see in Wisconsin or Lower Michigan, but you will fi...

Michigan's Northern Tip, Keweenaw County   These are a few shots from a recent trip we took to the Northern tip of Michigan for a 400,000 acre inventory and appraisal.           These cliffs are a lot taller than they look in the pics.                                                   Lake Superior along west side of the Keweenaw Peninsula.                     Eagle River Michigan                                   Nick at Joseph Creek Falls                                   Waterfall in Eagle River

In truth, the Keweenaw Peninsula is really an Island. It is surrounded by lake Superior on three sides and requires crossing the Portage Canal on the other side. This area has so much to offer, I won't be able to do it justice in one article, so will write a short series, this being the first. Primarily a tourist hot spot, the Keweenaw has some breathtaking mountains, world class biking trails, awesome ATV and Snow Mobile trails, and some of the best Cross County ski trails you'll ever find. Today, I am going to focus on one small community on the northern tip called Copper Harbor. You can googleinformation on how this community was founded. Though many of the residents are seasonal, it is open in the winter and is a final destination for many Snow Mobilers. The Harbor is sheltered, as ...

For all of us cell phone users. Interesting article.   I'm one to use my phone when I'm on the road. I try my utmost best to be careful when answering especially when I'm in the city limits. Some out there aren't and then accidents, some fatal do happen. We live in an instant world. We need to know everything right away. Remember the old Beatles song" Slow down your moving too fast. You have to make the morning last". Famous words. Maybe prophetic too.  The article made alot of sense to me.   Being out on the road watching people drive and converse can be a bit scary. There were a couple of close calls. You have to be so aware. It used to be where you watch out for yourself but now it includes everyone else around you. Will this be the answer (new technology) to our problem? Maybe yes. ...

I few years ago I traveled to an island called Isle Royale in Lake Superior.  Not many people are aware of this island in the middle of Lake Superior.  However, I found this experience to be the very best hiking experience of my life.  Isle Royale is located approximately 40 miles north of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Northern Michigan and is also one of the least visited National Parks.  In fact, more people visit Yellowstone National Park in one day than people who visit Isle Royale in an entire year.Isle Royale is an island that is approximately 40 miles long and 9 miles wide at its widest point.  With over 20 Inland lakes, it's a fisherman's dream, especially when so few people visit the island.   Because the island is a National Park there is no need to have a fishing license at any o...
