Many home sellers in Hastings are faced with the problem of owing more on their home loans than what their property is worth in today's market. The fact is that in order to sell your property in the Minnesota real estate market today you need to pay off the entire mortgage in order to sell the home. Unless you want to arrange a short sale with your mortgage lender, this means you will have to bring money to the closing table to pay off the remaining mortgage owed. As a result many home sellers who need to move are considering the possibility of renting out their current home in order to buy a new one. Hastings Home Sellers: Can You Cover Your Expenses? The good news today is that with the tougher housing market, the amount you can get for rent has increased significantly. It is not unco...

Down payment and closing cost assistance is available for first time Hastings home buyers and others who have not owned a home for at least three years. This program is made available through the Dakota County Community Development Agency, and it provides financial resources to make your home purchase successful. The program is not available to everyone. There are credit score and maximum income requirements, and there is a mandatory attendance in the Homestretch Homebuyer Education Program. Topics covered include: Budgeting and Credit Issues, Financing and Qualifying for a Home, Shopping for a Home, The Purchase Process, Closing on a Home and Life as a Homeowner. Not the first Barge this Spring to come through Hastings, but, the first one I had the chance to see. There is nothing like walking along the river next to a masive Barge heading for Lock and Dam No.2. The observation deck allows you to watch boats, barges and sometimes even a Paddle Wheeler as they raise and lower in the locks getting ready to navigate the next part of the Mississippi. My grandsons love to push the BIG GREEN BUTTON and listen as "some guy" talks about the Lock and Dam and the whole process of how the boats enter and leave. It's a beautiful, short walk from the Historic Downtown of Hastings. You pass Lake Rebecca and it's many ducks and geese, fisher people, and boaters using the public boat dock and marina. A short drive from the Twin Cities. Come down and visit someti...

The Hastings Area Chamber (www.hastingsmn.org) and Mn/DOT (http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/hastingsbridge/) sent this out today to Chamber members encouraging them to put this in business  and car windows.    Of course, there's a story behind this.           The problem starts with a four lane Highway and a two lane bridge. Regular Hastings Bridge travelers know the rules. Get in the left lane as soon as possible and DO NOT let anyone cut in front of you from the right lane, especially in the last block before the actual crossing. Minnesota Nice rules do not apply. It is every man for himself and we come under severe scrutiny if we don't close the gap and someone sneaks in. Now because bridge repair has reduced traffic to one lane, we have a Zipper Zone. That is two lanes of ...

In Hastings, Minnesota "you can still get there from here" but, if you're going North it might take awhile. The dreaded day has come when our Big Blue Bridge over the Mississippi River has been shut down to single lane traffic and will remain that way for the Summer. Many of the side streets that feed onto Highway 61 have been closed with only a handful of ways to get onto this main artery. Add to that road construction and soon the reconstruction of the historic walls that border Highway 61 and it's no wonder there was concern. But, while everyone has been wringing their hands and predicting the worst,The Hastings Area Chamber and a committee of it's members decided to be proactive and initiated a Bridge Bingo game. Local merchants signed up to be one of the bingo squares to encourage ...
