Big Sky Montana Real Estate 4th Quarter Market update The following graphs should help you understand where the market in Big Sky is for the 4th quarter of 2011. Market for Single Family Homes in Big Sky, MT   The previous graph indicates that, as usual, the fourth quarter during the holiday season did taper off some, but had an interesting side note in that what we did sell had a higher market value and had been on the market for an extended time period.  This is likely a result of the ski season here in Big Sky country.  We can likely expect more of the same for the first quarter of 2012 as ski season continues. Real Estate Inventory for Big Sky, MT This graph is an indication of our inventory, how well it is moving, and how long it might take to get your home sold. We refer to this a...

How long will it take to sell my Big Sky, MT home? In Realtors language, we call it the absorption rate.  We can analyze the sales data from the last 6 months in comparison to the number of homes that are still on the market and make an educated guess as to how long it may take homes in Big Sky Montana to sell.  The chart looks like this:   What does the chart tell us?  If you have a home that has a list price of under $350,000, you stand a very good chance of selling it in under six months since we have sold seven homes in that price range in the previous six months and currently only have five available to sell.  If you have a home that is priced between $600,000 and $1M, you are likely facing eighteen months of marketing time, and if you home is listed for over a million, you are in ...

Photos from Saturday, March 7, 2009, skiing in Big Sky, Montana with the family. Our son is progressing fast, skiing the Magic Carpet Hill as well as skiing Blue slopes and Green slopes between his papa's legs. No fun here... The Montana snow was excellent, the Montana sun couldn't have been brighter, the big Montana sky clearer...the camaraderie better. Tremendous views and the Tetons (not shown) are often visible on these very clear days... just a bit too many alto stratus clouds this day...

From Moonlight Basin Ski Area to the private Yellowstone Club Resort, most of the Big Sky, Montana ski resorts concerns have been fixed for the winter and it's snowing here in southwest Montana. The skis are sharp, the bodies are willing, and 2-4 inches of snow are forecast for this evening; Big Sky's skiing and snowboarding season is here. Even the Yellowstone Club is back in business, which means work through the winter for its many employees. Because of a Loan by Boston's CrossHarbor Capital of $20 Million, the Yellowstone Club in Big Sky, Montana will survive winter 2008-2009. Two financial entities are battling for control of Big Sky, Montana's Yellowstone Club, which boasts memberships by some of the world's wealthiest... Both Credit Suisse and CrossHarbor Capital with financial help offered by some Club members, are battling for control of Edra Blixseth's bankrupt Big Sky, Montana Yellowstone Mountain Club: Credit Suisse, failing in its attempt to setup a seven-figure loan plan, argues that because it's owed over $300M by the Club it should maintain control and is trying to block a financing deal from Boston-based CrossHarbor Capital, which has offered $20 million to maintain the club through the winter skiing and snowboarding season. Some Club members, siding with CrossHarbor Capital and Sam Byrne, showed up for the Tuesday, November 25th court proceeding...

When it comes to choosing which mountains to ride and ski this year, remember that, "more famous" and "more popular" does not equate with "better skiing." The following ten ski resorts have been selected based on two criteria more important than any other: consistency of good snow conditions, and quality of terrain. Building your trip around any one of these places will make for an epic days this season. Please ski and ride safely and we'll see you out there! 10. Kirkwood, CA Off Tahoe's beaten-path, Kirkwood is 45 minutes south of the lake and resorts like Heavenly and Squaw. Its location helps thin the crowds, even as Kirkwood receives the most snowfall of any Tahoe resort, averaging 600 inches a year. When it's not snowing, it's probably sunny, as Kirkwood also boasts a healthy major...

The Yellowstone Club, filed for bankruptcy Monday, November 10, 2008 after its inability to secure financing arrangements with its creditors and bondholders. Yellowstone Club spokesman, Bill Keegan said the Yellowstone Club filed Chapter 11 for protection in Montana federal bankruptcy court to protect the Club and its members. Two months ago the Club, as it is called in the area, had announced it would begin new growth in conjunction with Arizona-based Discovery Land Company, but the recent national financial collapse forestalled this method. Ensconced in Montana's Madison Range mountains, between the Gallatin and Madison Rivers, the gated, 13,400 acre Montana ski and golf resort opened in 1999, and holds memberships for former cycling great, Greg Lemond, Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gate...
