It does snow in Santa Fe is the answer I frequently give to buyers seeking to relocate to the Southwest. This is often a surprise to people in the northeast who dream of never shoveling snow again. However, Santa Feans know snow is a blessing of water from Mother Nature. And an opportunity to see our adobe walls differently. Here is what I discovered this morning just before sunrise. And the rest of the story is our nearly 365 days of sunshine often melt the snow quickly. There is no need to bring your snowblower when you relocate to Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Sometimes in Santa Fe when the sun rises in the East, mother nature adds a gift of color to the sky in the West. Here is what happened this morning when I went out to get the paper. Yes, looking up and looking WEST of Santa Fe towards the Jemez Mountains! One of habits my Dad taught me when I was growing up was to look up. In part, I think it was to make sure I knew where I was going. I grew up in Connecticut in a small city and then an even smaller town. In both places, lots of buildings and trees got in the way of seeing the sky forever. Back in those days, I only really saw a forever sky was when I went to the beach. All that changed when I moved to Santa Fe decades ago. Now the sunrise is part of my life. Frankly, I think it extends it because it is a great source of positive feelin...

A Blessing is more than a kind word in Santa Fe... and today in a Walgreens store, a blessing became a gift. Here is the rest of the story. Turn on your imagination and join me in this experience. Imagine being in the check out line of your local Walgreens. The line is small. There is one customer, a woman, in front of me and another behind me, a gentleman. No one is speaking. The woman is rummaging through her purse to find something. A crisp $20 dollar bill quietly falls on the floor. I quickly said, "Ma'am, you just dropped a twenty dollar bill." She looked surprised, bent over and picked it up. She turned to me, looked me in the eye and she said, "Bless you".  Nodding, I said "thank you". And then from behimd me, the gentleman said, "I will give you a dime for your blessing".  As if ...

News flash...it is snowing in Santa Fe! You may wonder why this is news. Here is why. Santa Fe has been my home for over 25 years and this winter began without snow and even cold temperatures. The deer in my northside foothill neighborhood never left for the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. My lilacs began to sprout new growth. Robins appeared two weeks ago and other birds began building spring nests in my portal. All this happened in Santa Fe in the months of December 2017 and January 2018. And every day I wondered when Jim Rohn's line "winter follows fall" would finally be a reality!Today snowflakes arrived unexpectedly. Whether it will be a weather shift or not depends on what happens next. Now it is time clear a path for another day in Santa Fe...the city different! Thank you for readin...

This post is about another example of how my adoption of test marketing for sellers is making a difference in both the time and speed of their property sale. Although this property is a home and guest house, the value was tied to how Meow Wolf and its exposure to surrounding neighborhoods is exposing future visitors to properties and locations away from the typical request for close to the "Santa Fe Plaza" area.  The marketing campaign positioned the property in the Meow Wolf neighborhood and focused on test marketing ads for a coming soon property on my Facebook Business page  and Twitter page to create interest and buzz. This was followed by a 1 hour open house posted on Zillow. This test marketing plan worked. I learned that the home buyers were tracking social media and Zillow more ...

Santa Fe Association of Realtors - news release of overall City and County of Santa Fe home sales statistics for the last quarter of 2016 tells the story of another shift in our Santa Fe real estate market and trends which appear to be looking up! Home sales increased by 16% with 388 units sold the last quarter of 2016 compared to 336 in the last quarter of 2015.  (This increase appears to be continuing as Santa Fe experiences low inventory in 2017). The Santa Fe City median home price leaped 13% from $300,250 in the 4th quarter of 2015 to $339,928 in the last quarter of 2016. (If this trend continues more homeowners may decide to put their houses on the market in 2017). Santa Fe County revealed a different result. Home prices fell by about 10% in the last quarter of 2016 compared to 20...

Build your Family Compound in Santa Fe where Georgia O’Keeffe stayed   It’s not often when you can fine land in Santa Fe proper that would allow you to build the family compound, creating a legacy for future generations. This unique property has 4.33 acres was set up with a small sub-division in mind. xx The owners loved the peace and quiet and maintained the 4.3 acres of open space and the 930 sq. ft. casita. Much of the infrastructure has been completed including city sewer. Inside is old Santa Fe, with vigas, kiva fireplace, saltillo tile floors and a Mexican tiled kitchen and bath with hand made cabinets. There is also 436 sq.ft. studio workshop and detached 2 car garage. The land is pristine, with old pinion trees, and native grasses. x x According to Fodors 1994  Guidebook, the ca...

The gift of seeing the sun rise over the Sangre de Cristro mountains in Santa Fe is often where my day begins...looking east at dawn for what nature will paint in the sky next. And this is one of the reasons why I love Santa Fe. There is something special in seeing the sun rise. The experience makes me want to pass it forward.  And today I learned it inspired someone to pass an act of kindness forward.  After the sun rose, I found myself in a downtown parking lot looking at my "to do" list to get my brake light bulb fixed. As I started my car, I caught a glimpse of someone walking by in my rear view mirror. I rolled down my window. "Can you tell me which light is out" I asked. "Sure" he said. The next thing I knew he asked me to open the trunk so he could pull out the bulb. And then th...
