Our Friend Is No More Local residents are being warned to watch out for their pets and livestock by a Udora resident who had an Alpaca destroyed by a bear or cougar. Living in the country there is always the chance of seeing a wide variety of animals. Some are domesticated like the Llama and Alpaca pictured here or our neighbours horse. We are also blessed with all kinds of wild animals who we occasionally see such as deer, rabbits, raccoons and skunks. There are also other wild animals that you occasionally hear of someone seeing such as a resident Black Bear that is usually spotted at least once a year cleaning out someones bird feeder or Garbage can.  Up until now that has been the extent of what we have heard about. This past weekend that all changed as the friendly little brown Alp...

BRRRRR!!! Baby It's Cold Outside After a couple of weak attempts to snow earlier in the week yesterday it snowed most of the day but with temperatures hovering right around freezing it was still to warm to stick. Over night the temperature dropped enough to allow it to stick, even on the 'warm' ground. This Morning this is what I woke up to Baby It's Cold Outside ..... Baby, It's Cold Outside by Lady Antebellum on YouTube ..... For the older generationand all youDean Martin fans here's Dean's version of Baby It's Cold Outside on Youtube ..... Make It A Great Day

Uxbridge, Ontario - B.A.D. - Ride 13 What A great day for a road trip, traversing over rolling hills, passing along side rivers and canals, by market gardens and through the picturesque villages of Kettleby, Brown Hill, Zephyr and Udora. Last year 1150 bikes and almost 1500 people joined in for B.A.D. Ride XII, this event raised almost $210,000 dollars to support Distress Centres. One rider we spoke to estimated there were in excess of 2,000 bikers on the B.A.D Ride today as it Passed through Uxbridge. He also said we just missed about 30 who had stopped to fill up at the Local Gas Station in Udora.   There were only a few left by the time I arrived with my camera The Stragglers Headed Through Udora The ride paused at various spots along the way such as the the Belvedere Cookhouse Saloo...

Udora's Camp Jõekääru is the place to be on August 23/24 if you are a Jazz fan. In the early 1950’s the Independent Toronto Estonian Women’s Association purchased land in the north-west side of Udora. The property was then divided into lots for summer cottages for Estonians living in Toronto. The name Jõekääru translated into English is River Bend as the Pefferlaw River runs through the grounds. With the cottages came the Estonian Children's Camp. Last years JK Jazz festival raised funds to replace the windows in the boys and girls camp buildings providing enhanced ventalation for the camp attendees. Come and enjoy a great summer evening of Jazz with performers coming from Canada, Estonia, Latvia, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico. Also featured this year is an art exibit and sale in the newly co...

Recently the Udora - Leaskdale Lions held their annual river run from the Zepher side road through the Estonian Camp in Udora and on into Pefferlaw. This years event was a fund raiser for the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital with approximately $1,500 being raised. If the canoe run had been scheduled for a few weeks ago ... this is what they would have been paddling through ... more like white water rafting.

Keep Your Children Away From Swollen Streams and Rivers While the snow may be all but gone around Uxbridge the Streams and rivers are still very dangerous. The water level where these videos were taken rose close to 1 foot overnight last night (Wed April 02nd) and likely would have risen even more if the temperature had not dropped. Anticipated rain and just above freezing temperatures will likely keep the water levels high for the next week How MuchForce is There? The 25+ foot tree in the water was washed down river and through the dam. It is lodged on an island in the river that is now under about 1 foot of water Normal Flow is about 3 to 4 inches in depth over the dam. The Flow through the dam is about 3 feet in depth at the time of these videos Just HowDangerousis the flow? Watch fo...

Udora . . . One of the last original General Stores in Ontario still in operation and still distributing mail to the local residents is looking for new owners. The 145 plus year old store has had only six family owners in all that time. Even today it is the hub of this small hamlet just north of Uxbridge.
