Another beautiful Friday in Upstate South Carolina and I hope you are as ready for the weekend as I am. Been busy the last couple of days with new listings and doing some pre listing leg work for some potential listings for an out of state client but I have managed to find time to add several interesting articles for anyone interested in real estate in Upstate South Carolina to my website. Everyone is seeing the media talking about real estate and the housing market and sometimes these negative reports may influence a person to delay making a decision about buying a home. But if you are thinking about buying there are plenty of good reasons to support your decision and you can find out some more you may not have considered when you read 10 Market facts in Uncertain Times Another reason ...

Beautiful Saturday morning but for some reason I could not fall asleep last night so it was hard to get up as early as I wanted. The early bird gets the worm after all. But maybe sleeping an extra 1.5 hours was meant to be because it meant I saw one of my dream cars on the way to the office this morning, a De Tomaso Pantera: I would have to sell not only every piece of property listed at my company but also probably every home for sale on Lake Keowee and Hartwell Lake for my wife to not be upset about buying such an impractical car. Speaking of the lakes in Upstate South Carolina, I have a great new listing on Broadway Lake in Anderson South Carolina! It is a 4 bedroom 3 bath home with dock in place, plenty of decking in the back yard for entertaining and 2 outbuildings and attached gar...

Well, we made it to Friday and what a beautiful day it is in Upstate South Carolina! Check out the picture I took this morning from the dock of a home I will be entering into the MLS today: Imagine getting to enjoy your morning coffee with that view every day! It is a 4/3 on Broadway Lake in Anderson for $195,000! Like I said it is new listing so not even entered into the MLS yet but will be on the web tomorrow. Now lets get down to the latest real estate information I have added to my website that may help buyer and sellers make more informed decisions: Freddie Mac just released some important information about mortgage rates that both buyers and sellers in Upstate South Carolina will want to check out at New Record Lows for Mortgage Rates One of the benefits of buying a home is no lon...

Because of the current state of the economy and the changing attitudes about the importance of family and community, is it possible that while smaller homes are attractive to some buyers, there are certain buyers that would be in the market for a large home that could easily house a mulit-generational family? Such as a home with multiple kitchens? A large home with plenty of options for entertaining? Such as a LARGE formal dining room? Such as a cozy family room with fire place adjoining one of the 2 kitchens? Such as a lovely sun room for quiet conversations whille watching the rest of the family playing in the big back yard? Or a Huge rec room downstairs? I think it is quite possible that anyone looking for such a home would want a great location that is close to shopping and the inte...

So yesterday, after a long day, I found this story about how Moody's and Economy.com about how 22 U.S. cities are at risk of slipping back into recession. And Anderson is one the list. I had spent all day responding to comments to a hot blog entry that was actually featured on ActiveRain.com, writing a follow-up article, getting the many other blogs and websites I use up to date with scheduled posts, etc etc. So even though this topic makes for great fodder to write about the local politicians and show my total and utter disdain for politicians, I decided to share this news via twitter instead. And then today I read an article about the same story on the IndependentMail website. And as always, the comments are usually entertaining. And one person responded with: It's not only the City-C...

The Anderson City Council members approved a design contract with RSCT Architecture and Design at a meeting Monday for a greenspace in downtown Anderson! Of course, nothing is free and if it were not for a grant from Piedmont Natural Gas of $35,000 then we might not be able to look at having a downtown green space. RSCT’s draft includes an outdoor amphitheater with grass seating, water features, a “monumental” stairway and areas overlooking the site. The possibilities are endless for downtown Anderson, and all we have to do is look at downtown Greenville to see that a revitalized downtown is an essential part of attracting economic development to Anderson County. Another reason that this could help Anderson is that some people feel we need to attract a major hotel into downtown. We curr...

I just read an interesting article that anyone that drives down Murray Avenue as much as I do will find interesting. For a long long time the plot of land at the intersection of Murray and Franklin has been sitting with a sign promising future development but nothing has happened yet. View Larger Map Well, finally, we may see some work. But a big IF is between what that land is today and what that land could be and that is happening at Monday's City Council Meeting. I sure hope that residents of the city will  attend and let the City Council know how they feel about this. Even if you disagree with me, it is important that you let your elected officials know your viewpoint. And we have so much room for improvement on this side of town. I am sure everyone thinks about the areas that are b...

Last night I saw some highlights on the news about the road being built in Anderson to connect Hwy 81 and Clemson Boulevard. It seems, and probably rightly so, that anyone that is going to have this road built adjacent to their property is upset. But can we blame anyone for feeling this way? If it was happening in my back yard, I would be upset. And before I bought I researched what is behind me, to the side etc etc. On the other hand, considering the congestion on some of the roads this project is supposed to eliminate, is the East-West Connector a good idea? Is it a possibility that development on this new road will get out of control and instead of this road helping congestion it will instead create another mess? I have to admit that if we can build it now as a 4 lane, that seems bet...

The South Carolina three LEOSThis week is a sad week for me, since I am in Rhode island. I usually spend the first week of August in Anderson, South Carolina to celebrate my firstborn's son, John Michael's birthday WHICH IS TODAY, on August 1st, my daughter-in-law, Victoria's birthday on August 4th, and my first born grandson, Nolan Bryce,  August 6th.   Here it is SUNDAY  and AUGUST FIRST, the actual day was a Sunday, 39 years ago when at exactly 9:30am, one hour after I left my apartment in Pawtucket, RI, a son was born at St Joseph's Hospital in Providence, RI. I was 10 days early and the delivery was so quick that I said at the time, "Oh, let's have at least 6 children"  Going back to that period of time we did not know the sex of the child  until the Doctor would announce, it's a...

An Apology to a Former Client: Do you remember when you cursed me like a dog because I got you that offer you said was too low? You remember, the cash offer that would close in 2 weeks? The offer that was based upon the home that had just sold close by? Do you remember how I remained calm and explained this is the offer you had better take? Do you remember me telling you which direction the market is headed? I saw the price reduction today for your home. $15,000 less than the CASH deal I had for you... I am sorry I could not get you to understand or accept the reality of the Anderson SC real estate market. I am sorry that I could not get you to stop being selective about the reality you accept! I hope you know about the latest real estate market conditions for Anderson South Carolina. I...

Good news for Anderson and Anderson County because Orian Rugs is expanding their facility by 60,000 square feet! The expansion will is supposed to add approximately 12 full-time jobs to the Anderson community in 2010 and as many as 50 jobs over the next 3 years. Orian Rugs is a zero-landfill domestic manufacturer of synthetic woven area rugs and scatter rugs. It was started in Anderson in 1979. The existing Orian Rugs facility is HUGE! I am sure everyone from Anderson has seen it over on Hwy 81 because it is hard to miss a 550,000 square foot building! What you might not know is that building houses a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility where yarn and area rug manufacturing processes are 100% vertically integrated in-house. Also inside is the sales, design, marketing and customer se...
