The Overlook at Battery Creek makes for a charming neighborhood and is a great addition to Beaufort.  What used to be an unsightly trailer park across the street from an upscale gated community was turned into a pristine high-quality community of homes with plenty of open space and amenities.  Talk about creating the highest and best possible use of the land!  The architects designed the Overlook in a truly grand Southern style, all the while keeping in mind preserving all the moss-laden live oak trees.  Big Oak Park was created to save these centuries-old trees, which speaks a lot about the developer's commitment to preserving the landscape and adding value to the community. This pedestrian-friendly neighborhood features amenities that include:walking trails and a wooden foot path with ...

The Beaufort waterways are heavily populated with the Atlantic Blue Crab. These are some of the tastiest crabs out there, and when cooked fresh, well, your taste buds will be screaming for more. Fortunately, crabs are very easy to catch and require very inexpensive gear. Crabbing is an activity the entire family can participate in, and can be a lot of fun. Unlike fishing, crabs are always "biting", (or shall we say clawing ). Stuff Ya Gonna Need All you need to crab is a piece of string, most people use either nylon or cotton, as the crab really doesn't care much. A weight (an old spark plug could even work), a long handle net, a cheap one will do just fine, your bait, (chicken necks work the best),and a bucket to put all the crabs you catch. And... most important...your good luck fish...

It truly seems as though 2008 is off to a tremendous start. I am excited about the activity that my listings have enjoyed already. Take a look below at the South Carolina Market Data!Statewide growth will boost SC home sales in 2008 According to SCR market data, 2007 was one of the best years on record for South Carolina home sales. With over 61,000 total sales last year, the year-end totals represent a 55% increase in sales and a 32% increase in median price since 2000.Year End Comparison Chart 1999-2007 We are already seeing increased activity on the coast, that's a good sign for the next quarter. Pending sales activity shows that home sales will hold fairly steady over the next few months. Total sales are expected to rise later in the year and continue to improve in 2009, according...

I realize the importance of listings. I work hard to attract realistic sellers, however; there is always that one home that makes me wonder...... I believe that in some way the listings we take reflect on us as professionals. Is that crazy? My listings are my inventory, my inventory is my business. My business is where I spend most of my time. I have done the "We should really paint, you may want to declutter, speech"  to no avail. This particular property is priced well, yet it lacks the appeal needed to really draw in the buyers. Before signing the listing paperwork, we made a list of things that needed to be completed before introducing the home to the MLS. They agreed;however, once the date arrived (although understandably due to personal circumstances) the list was not finished. No...

Welcome to Fightertown USA - Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.  Anywhere you move in the military is an adjustment to a new environment, climate, new customs and courtesies, local food and all the other differences you will notice from what you are used to coming from other locations.  Sometimes it feels like a culture shock and other times you feel at home and will never want to leave.  Most people feel somewhere in-between.  Those of you who are used to relocating know that there are up sides and down sides to every move.  Having moved 13 times in a 24-year career I looked at moving as a new opportunity!  There are all kinds of opportunities out there and it all depends on your attitude.  From meeting new friends to shopping and finding great deals, Beaufort's "small town" atmosphe...

Beaufort, South Carolina made it in the news again!  (That's BEWfort, not BOWfort).  This time Field and Stream magazine called Beaufort one of the Best Fishing Towns in America.   The February 2008 edition of the magazine listed the top 20 small towns under 100,000 in population, and Beaufort made the list.  The magazine called our beloved community "a saltwater paradise" and it is so true!  Everywhere you look is water.  From the Atlantic Ocean nearby and Intracoastal Waterway running through town, Beaufort is one of the greatest places to drop anchor and throw out a line.  Fishing-wise, you can cover the gamut of redfish, drum, sea trout, tarpon, dolphin, marlin, and the list goes on and on.Beaufort has made many lists in the past.  Here are a few of the categories.  One of the Bes...

Come home to one of Beaufort's most treasured coastal waterfront developments.  Pinckney Retreat was once a part of a Plantation established circa 1736.  This magnificent retreat offers wide river views - some of the best panoramas anywhere.  The original Retreat Plantation House is still on site and is an amenity for all the property owners to use.  There is also a community clubhouse with swimming pool and outdoor patio with fireplace to enjoy.  Walk the walking trails along the marshes, and bask in the shade of the stately Spanish moss-laden live oak trees.  Sip your favorite cool beverage on your porch.  Build your dream home here in this intimate, private setting.  Life is short, so you may as well enjoy it in a beautiful setting.

As a Mississippi girl, sharks were nothing more than a looming memory of the ominous music played before a massive creature attacked some unsuspecting characters dressed in a most unforgettable and somewhat unforgiving wardrobe from the late 70's. So now I am in beautiful Beaufort and what do I catch while attempting to hook a trout or two.....Mr. Bonnethead himself. Now, please, before anyone fusses about our mistreatment of the wonderful marine life, you should know Mr. Bonnethead is swimming happily in the saltwater estuaries of the lowcountry. This was my first experience with this type shark. He was quite the fighter...we had no idea what awaited us on the end of our shrimp baited "stopper" (now, let me explain....in Mississippi we refer to the so called cork as a stopper, understa...

Today in the midst of all things stressful, I was reminded of why I love my job. I moved to Beaufort, South Carolina at a time in my life where I craved a change of pace, a comfort, a place I could call home. Although I have lived all over the world, I am and will always be a southern girl. Before moving to Beaufort, I taught school in Atlanta.  Arguably, Atlanta is the south. I would argue against it in most cases. Alanta is beautiful, exciting, and the social scene is ideal for most singles. One year of battling traffic and I was in search of a different environment. No offense to any Atlanta lovers, it just wasn't my cup of tea. So I did what I do when faced with one of life's inevitable crossroads. I simply looked at a map and went for it. I had never been to Beaufort, knew no on...

I know 2008 is going to be great!  We are off to a great start.  I have 3 closings this month and three more contracts to write before week end.  I just got an offer on one of my listings after 4 days on the market.  Things seem to be going as well as anyone can hope for.  When I reflect on these blessings, I am reminded by my husband that I haven't had a day off in months and that I am working longer hours than he did during his residency.  I am hoping to implement a good scheduling balance this year between work and family.  I am hoping that I can afford to be more selective about the clients I work with this year.  I am hoping that I will be blessed with grateful and kind clients who recognize my efforts and are not quick to criticize.  I am hoping that my office will grow with other...

We will be on a 42' Endeavor Sail Boat.  Our boat is decorated with a 50 foot high Christmas Tree in green lights with a  star at the top.  Also, since we are a coastal town, we could not resist adding a palm tree with a parrot hanging out in the frawns.  Santa will be our captain!  If you are in the Beaufort South Carolina area, be sure to visit our downtown Waterfront Park around 6:00 p.m. tomorrow evening and remember to look for entry #21.  For all of your Beaufort South Carolina real estate needs, visit www.ChrisSkrip.com or www.BeaufortSeaIslandRealEstate.com.

Recently, so many of my agents and friends have asked me "What do you write about in your blog?" I keep telling them that I write about my experiences, my agent's experiences, my client's experiences, and anything else that may be of interest to another Realtor or a buyer/seller in today's market. Well....let me share my latest personal experience!  I had a Realtor call to set up an appointment to show my home.  He only gave me 30 minutes notice, which I had to call back and ask for an hour because I had to go pick up my dogs and drive them around while my house was shown.  I made it home, got everything straightened out so that my home would show at its best, got the dogs in the car...then, he and his clients road by the house and called to cancel the appointment because the home was t...

Commitment. For Chris Skrip the meaning of this word runs deep. To him, true commitment stands the test of time and embodies the principles of honor, loyalty, and dependability. As a Marine, he summed it up in the faithful cry of Semper Fi! Today, the value of true commitment continues to define all aspects of the life of this local businessman. The Few. The Proud. As a young man Chris served his country in the United States Marine Corps. The rigorous training on Parris Island deepened his sense of commitment in profound ways. Those who have undergone the many trials and jumped the many hurdles of boot camp know that the endurance gained and the sense of duty acquired is unmatched. The discipline of the Marine Corps is ingrained in his work ethic, sense of loyalty, and his commitment to t...

About a month ago, we made a huge switch from a templated website and had a custom website built.  With that change came about some pains.  While most were very necessary, some were unexpected.  One of those changes was that my old blog has been erased and all of the links that were associated with it.  So, I am here again starting a brand new blog and hoping to incorporate that new blog into our new website.  I hope that this blog will provide readers with a source of trustworthy information about real estate in Beaufort SC and some shared professional knowledge for those that practice in my area.  I am hoping that we can talk about the market, new happenings in our community, and my opinions about various topics of interest.  Please stay tuned for my next entry.

Hurricane season lasts from June 1st through November 30th.  Even though Beaufort has been spared from major storms and hurricanes throughout history, there is always that chance one could make landfall and cause damage to our beautiful area.  We haven't had a direct hit since 1959 when Hurricane Gracie slammed into us with 145 mph winds.  Before that, it was in 1893 when a hurricane made landfall in Georgia just south of Beaufort.  Oh sure, we've had a few close calls, but we always must be prepared and take action when necessary. One of the best preparation guides I've seen lately is an animation offered by the Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette.  I highly recommend watching this presentation.  It gives you an idea of how to prepare, gives you information about what to do with your pet...
