OK - Most everyone knows that I had to rebuild my well or pump house. It has taken awhile with having to also put in a new driveway and sprinkler system is still work in process and will be for awhile. So here goes the pump house update. BAD....Ummm needs some serious work....Off comes all four sides. This is Jeff our son that helped.  The Hardy is going up, looking good so far. Had some really bad places due to termites and wood ants.  This is why we remodeled the whole pump house... <<<<<<<<09/23/2008

Have you noticed the days are getting shorter? Looks like September 22nd is the first day of fall. The weather is definitely going to be cooler the rest of the week. Does that mean those 100 degree days are gone forever? Here is a pic of an oak tree and some baby acorns that are falling. Since we haven't had much rain this summer the trees are stressed and the acorns will not be large. No matter what, the deer are already much happier and have something to eat. Maybe they will leave Ceil's plants alone now the acorns are falling  It is amazing how nature will let you know when the season is about to change. We have just gone through a terrible hurricane here in Texas and now a  coolness is in the air. Only mother nature can do all this. Wind, rain one day and the next offers hope with t...

If you live in Texas some of you may be familiar with the name Handy Andy; maybe not so much today but back in the early 60's that was the grocery chain ...you may be familiar the name Handy Andy. We have seen the stores close one at a time and just a few remain open in small communities. The Landa Street Handy Andy was devastated in a fire on Friday. News spread fast in New Braunfels, TX and surrounding area Friday afternoon. (It always does when you live in a small close-nit community). We shop at some of the stores in the Landa Center like many that live in New Braunfels. What is sad is the loss, but one in particular is Handy Andy. We remember years ago when Handy Andy was the grocery chain to shop in the community, also when we lived in San Antonio at McCreless Mall and some other ...

If you live in Texas or just moving to Texas you can expect to see the Cicadea during the summer months. If you live in Texas you have probably heard them singing or making such an unusual sound it hurts your ears.  We get use to them; but when my grandson came in Sunday afternoon and wanted me to come and look at the bug-a-boo I hurried outside to see what the heck he was talking about. We watched for a few minutes   and I told him it was a Cicadca. We watched as he worked his way out of the outter covering hard shell. We came in an pulled it up  on Mr. Google to get a better definition. Cicada larva have the urge to climb before they metamorphose, since their heavy body weight makes it very difficult for them to get airborne from the ground. Some will climb high up in trees and others...

You learn something new everyday. A couple weeks ago Ceil was fooling around with the computer just looking up information about Canyon Lake and she came across this wonderful website she had not seen before. Ceil sent an email to the contact person to ask a question; left her name and telephone number. She receives a response a couple days later saying they were on a cruise and will get back in touch with her when they retured. The very day they returned Ceil received a call. A little over an hour later Ceil got off the telephone all excited to share with me some news from this person she had just talked with on the telelphone. Amongst many tid-bits of information Ceil said she was invited to attend a, of all things, a computer club that meets here at Canyon Lake. Ceil has it on her ca...

We have been seeing T. Boone Pickes on TV quite a bit lately so thought I would visit his website to take a look at his plan. T.Boone Pickenshttp://www.pickensplan.com Visit his website, some very interesting reading. "It's time to stop America's addiction to foreign oil." "America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day."  These were the first two things I saw when I clicked the website.   Wind Power  Studies from around the world show that the Great Plains States are home to the greatest wind energy potential in the world. The Department of Energy reports that 20% of America's electricity can come from wind. North Dakota alone has the potential to provide power for more than a quarter of the country. Well its not only North Dakota, has anyone been through Texas and New Mexico ...

Canyon Lake Gorge. This was a day we will always remember. You hear about things like this happening to other communities but not it my backyard. A torrent of water from an overflowing lake sliced open the earth in 2002 here at Canyon Lake. This wall f water was so strong it exposed rock formations, fossils and even dinosaur footprints in just three days. Since then, the canyon has been accessible only to researchers to protect history. "It exposed these rocks so quickly and it dug so deeply, there wasn't a blade of grass or a layer of algae," just limestone rock and water. The mile-and-a-half-long gorge, up to 80 feet deep, was dug out from what had been a nondescript valley covered in mesquite and oak trees. It sits behind a spillway built as a safety valve for Canyon Lake, a popular ...

Let me introduce you to my surprise. Cute but Smelly!                                                           It Finally Happened! For several days now we could "smell" this lilttle guy or gal. You didn't need to see them but definitely  had come for a visit. Yea! The Odor. As I raised the garage door (you know the rest of the story). Fortunately he ran one way and I the other but he raised his tail and marked his spot. Here are some tips for deoderizing after the episode.    == Removing skunk odor == You will need to break down or dissolve the oil in skunk scent. Inside house: 1. wash affected wall, floor, etc. areas with water containing either chlorine bleach or vinegar (acetic acid) or 2. Use a commercial odor-removing compound such as: "Skunk-off" aerosol; get through Vet Clinic,...
