A haven for Martingales inCedar Creek area of Bastrop Texas In Texas many people know the benefits of encouraging Martingales to nest on one's property. Here is a picture of a property in the Cedar Creek area of Bastrop Texas.  As part of wildlife managment and bug control we put up housing for the birds.  In some cases combining a wildlife management program on top of existing agricultural tax status you can get wildlife tax status. Unfortunately for the owners of this property they do not have the acreage range for that tax break.  All I can assume is that they are one of the Martingales biggest fans!

I just visited the Pope Bend Trailhead of McKinney Roughs, an LCRA park and recreation destination, which is locted east of Austin and west of Bastrop on Hwy 71. Park fees for rides are 10.00 per horse/rider, and you can buy tickets at the Visitor Center at the main park entry. At the Pope Bend Trailhead there is ample trailer space, water for animals, 12 x 12 runs, picnic tables and access to approximately 11 miles of equestrian trails ( no motor vehicles allowed!) While I was there I bumpted into the owners of the Happy Horse Hotel who were up for a an evening ride. They tell me that they also have tickets at their Horse Hotel just down the road (860 Pope Bend) and they also offer bungalows, trailer parking, and camping with your horses. They have developed their own awesome trail map...

Having moved here only a few years ago, I have been overwhelmed by "Texas pride".  I find it so refreshing! People do not hesitate to plaster their cars with their kids honor roll stickers, the logo of their favorite high school, or college football team, and when you drive out in the country you find a lot of American and Texas flags flying side by side.  Most every home has some kind of Texas star adorning it.  This is a picture of a barn floor at a property in Cedar Creek just 20 minutes outside of Austin.  Being a horse woman I love the brick floors but it would be hard for me not to kick my horses out into the pastures and convert this barn into a little area to entertain my friends!    Needless to say we have our Texas star on the front of our home ( that was fun shopping for!) an...

Cedar Creek is located 11 miles west of Bastrop (west central Bastrop County) on Highway 21, between Highway 71 and FM 812. Highway 21 goes south to  Highway 183, on to San Marcos TX. Situated where it is, Cedar Creek is a fairly straightforward commute to either Austin or Bastrop. There are numerous subdivisions situated throughout the area that you do not always see from the main roads, as well as large and small homesites. The landscape ranges from heavily wooded, with large old oak trees, to scrub brush and open pasture. It is a diverse area that is home to Cedar Creek Elemetary (PK-4) Cedar Creek Intermediate School (gr.5-6) and Cedar Creek Middle School (gr. 7-8). High school students would go to Bastrop High School. As with all areas around Austin Metro, Cedar Creek is developing r...
