2024 Eclipse Fun In Texas! As you may have all have heard, because it was all over the news, the 2024 Eclipse was scheduled to come through Texas today. According to NASA a total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, completly blocking the face of the sun! It was going to be precisely at 1:44 PM when the moon covered the earth for approximately 4 and 1/2 minutes, in our area,  so we could not pass up the opportunity to take a break and watch it!  Where we live it was in the "center line" of the eclipse's path so we made a day, well a couple of hours of it! It was a fun few hours with the inlaws ages 87 & 85, watching it with them today!They said they had never seen anything like it in their lifetime! Our Texas Bluebonnets We are proud of our Lupinus Texensis or more commmonly know as Texas Bluebonnets! They grow wild on our property every spring in huge batches along the street and all over our 5 acres.  They are the states official "Texas State Flower" so they are not allowed to be picked!They last from mid April until June. Even when they start fading & look more like weeds, we do not mow them until mid to late June when the brown foliage overpowers the beautiful blues. This allows them time to seed & germinate during the winter months,  so we are insured they come back every year! They grow to about 6 inches tall with a pretty white top. Poetry a town in Texas...Poetry was originally known as Turner's Point,  established in 1845. In 1876 the town was renamed Poetry. Maston Ussery, a local merchant , suggested the name as he said the town reminded him of a poem. About 40 minutes from Dallas, the population of Poetry today is approximately 2169,  with a truly rural feel even though it is close proximity to several large towns such as Rockwall, Greenville & Terrell.  Incorporation was approved in 1984 but was invalidated by the Kaufman County Commissioner courts due to technical difficutlites.
