Tom: What do you think will happen to mortgage interest rates in 2010? Will the Fed actually stop buying mortgage backed securities? Do you think that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are toast? How will it affect my decision to buy a home in Reston? Steve: Well Tom, only God know the future, but the common wisdom is that rates will rise a point to a point and a half by April if the Fed stops helping prop up the supply of mortgage money.   But here's a thought for you, if you need and want to buy a house and you plan to stay there at least 4-5 years...go ahead. Yes, a home is an investment, but it is also a lifestyle...something to enjoy.   Our first home, a condo in  Falls Church was purchased at 13% ,our second a town house in Reston at 16%. Those were the market rates in those years...that...

Karen: Can you tell me what is happening with metro rail to Reston  in the future? Steve: Good stuff Karen, more good transportation options are coming. If you are a recent Reston resident, you have no idea how lucky you are transportation wise compared to the "old days". When we first moved to Reston, there was no toll road or Route 66 inside the beltway...no Fairfax County Parkway. We went to Tysons Corner via Baron Cameron (#606) to route 7 or up Lawyers Road to Vienna and over. When we went to Maryland we wiggled through Great Falls over to the beltway near the American Legion Bridge (called the Cabin John Bridge then) The light rail is scheduled to come to Tysons first, then to a Reston station at Wiehle Ave. then on to Dulles Airport and Ashburn. The goal is for residents out our ...

The popular Reston Town Center is often referred to as the "downtown of Northern Virginia" - it includes retail shops, 30 restaurants, a multiplex theater and the 519-room Hyatt Regency Reston Hotel voted one of the "Best Hotels" in Condé  Nast Traveler's 2009 Reader's Choice Awards.   This award-winning development was designed as a community gathering place and features a 20-foot fountain, low seating and broad steps making it very inviting to pedestrians.  At the Center's hub, the open-air glass Pavilion hosts special events, concerts and festivals throughout the year.  From late October through the second week in March, the Pavilion floor is transformed into an ice-skating rink drawing skaters from all over Northern Virginia. Just hours before the start of our record snowfall here i...

on real estate, Reston homes for Sale, Homes for sale in Reston, Homes for Sale in North Point Reston   Reston's Big Snow 10-20-09             After three concerted hours of shoveling yesterday.....on top of the three from Saturday, we were able to get out and capture some photos from around Reston.               There was a conspiracy between the sun and the traffic to keep us from getting as many good shots as we would have liked.       I thought that when we escaped from our neighborhood that we would have the streets to ourselves and would be able to peacefully pull up and jockey for just the right angle and sun position for a timeless snow shot. Rarely so.         Just about everyone else had had enough of  being snowbound and was out cruising even the most obscure of Reston's back...
