Smuggler's Notch was closed today for the first snowfall of the 2015-2016 season. Route 108 through 'The Notch' spanning between Stowe and Morrisville is closed during the winter because of it's narrow winding roads. Please keep this in mind when making travel plans.I happened to hike through 'The Notch' today - about eleven miles round trip. It was such a beautiful day to enjoy the snowy foliage!

Smuggler's Notch, Vermont is just such a beautiful place that I wanted to post some additional photos from my hike two weeks ago.  What an absolutely incredible place - the rock formations are amazing and the views are simply spectacular.  I really want to do a lot more exploration.  My dream is to pitch a tent and sleep out under the stars at the highest point in Vermont. My, I feel small next to that boulder! Interesting how a little change in perspective can make such a big difference.  Boulder doesn't look so big now, does it? If there is no one there to hear it, does a rock still make a sound when it falls?  I heard a HUGE rock slide from somewhere over in this zone.  While the slide was just out of sight, the roar was Very Dramatic! Dramatic rock formation... Another dramatic rock...

I would like to share some pictures with you from breathtakingly beautiful Smugglers Notch which is located between the towns of Stowe and Jeffersonville, Vermont.  There is also a ski resort with the same name.  The road closes at the first snowfall each season because it becomes impassible.  Cars that try to make it through the notch in winter usually stay there til spring!  Seriously!  A few times each year, some brave idiots try to make it through 'The Notch' and get stuck - too bad. The notch has a few hairpin twists that are barely wide enough for one car to gt through so imagine the banned tractor trailers that get stuck from time to time. I was there last week and the road was closed so I was able to get some nice photos.  Every single time I go to Stowe, I must go to The Notch....
